Black Flies They fly in large numbers and long distances

San Gabriel Valley cities have a black fly population boom right now. Beware they bite! I already saw one dead on the floor, but I thought it was a particularly large hover fly (beneficial pollinator) until I saw this newsletter. www.sgvmosquito.org/black-flies

LA Metro stations are getting pop-up metal detectors. They set them up for a few days and then take them down and move on to another station. I passed through one this week and there were maybe 14-18 security officers, when usually I see 2 or less.

There's 1 line at the very end expressing gratitude to law enforcement and mentions ICE, but it's not the focus. I'm personally going to ignore that 75 Dems list. Torres is not a fan of ICE and her actions elsewhere speak louder. 2/2 www.congress.gov/bill/119th-c...

Oh damn, you're technically right but also the news is exaggerating to make us mad. I looked up HR488 "Denouncing the antisemitic terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado". It's 99% about 1 person and denouncing their antisemitic terrorist attack (the guy threw molotovs at protestors). 1/2

Where the hell did you get this list because Norma Torres (CA-35) does NOT support grabbing people off the streets and detaining them. She's one of the reps that isn't ignoring this and has been actively trying to investigate ICE. bsky.app/profile/ktla...

Mayor Bass Reduces Curfew Hours Within Downtown L.A.

LOS ANGELES – Mayor Karen Bass has reduced the curfew hours for Downtown Los Angeles following successful crime prevention and suppression efforts. Effective today, Monday, June 16, the curfew will be in effect from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Mayor Bass instituted the curfew with support from elected, law enforcement and business leaders six days ago.

“The curfew, coupled with ongoing crime prevention efforts, have been largely successful in protecting stores, restaurants, businesses and residential communities from bad actors who do not care about the immigrant community,” Mayor Bass said. “Today, I am narrowing the curfew as we continue to quickly adjust to changing posturing out of Washington. I want the Downtown Los Angeles community of residents, business owners and events venues to know that my priority will continue to be ensuring safety, stability and support in the Downtown neighborhoods.”

"We’re committed to supporting Downtown L.A. residents, small businesses, and workers while standing proudly with our immigrant communities and peaceful demonstrators who make our city vibrant and strong,” said Councilmember Ysabel Jurado, who represents neighborhoods within the curfew area. “Pushing the curfew start time is a step in the right direction."

“As the curfew is narrowed, we’re continuing to ensure residents and businesses in the affected areas have the support they need,” said Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez, who represents communities within the curfew area. “We remain focused on protecting immigrant communities, supporting small businesses, and defending the constitutional rights of all Angelenos.”

The adjustment to the curfew follows a marked reduction in acts of violence, vandalism and looting that happened during the immediate escalation of the situation by the Trump Administration. The curfew area covers Downtown Los Angeles and represents less than eight square miles of the city.
