If you do your resume with LaTeX, you're sending a signal that (1) You know how to use LaTeX, which is an accomplishment all by itself, and (2) you're part of the cool nerds club (positive)

LaTeX is an old-but-still-adored software package for making nice-looking documents. It's a little like HTML - you mark up a text document and another program turns that into your doc. (The code looks nothing like HTML but conceptually it's similar.) Popular in academia because it's great at math.
