I mean, in general I don’t love unreliable narrators, beginning to end, but that selective unreliability is an even bigger turnoff.

I’m perpetually behind, so this is tough, but I really loved If Wishes Were Retail by Auston Habershaw
If I’m going to write a dream sequence, I’m going to make it dream-like enough for folks to know what it is right away.
Or else imbue it with actual consequences, like: rage out in the dream and wake up with bloody knuckles and a wrecked room and oh no, did the character hurt someone for real?

I’ve seen two that were good. But only because they were super obvious jokes.
Otherwise, yeah. No energy for the tomfoolery.
This is the only alt-Hulk I want from here on out.
Fetch is never gonna happen.
That sort of dilemma lives rent-free in my brain. Really need to evict it.

So… just got some Anthropic settlement mail—real actual physical mail—addressed to my home, but for authors who aren’t me.
I’ve figured out how 4 of the 5 authors are linked to me, but still puzzled about what happened here and what to do about it, if anything.
Holy shit!!
Because Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays.
I'm a professional technical writer. When I told a coworker that I'm helping write grant applications for a non-profit she said I should use Co-pilot. Why? Why would I outsource the thing I am best at to a resource-devouring, copyright-stealing machine? Why would anyone?
He loves it, and I love how much he loves it, and the athletes seem to love him being there cheering them on.
For real
I’d really love antagonistic anglophones to consider, for even a second, how many names of the US’s states and cities come from languages other than English. Just like… a second. Just think on it. What it means about where we live and who we are.
And I’d rather not get used to it. I’d rather some really clever people figured out how to cancel out the sound. Or build drones that better dampen the sound so they don’t annoy the shit out of the athletes and spectators too.
But I’ll probably be wishing for that for a while, alas.
I love a good revolution in camera work. The views that camera drones can provide, chasing skiers downhill or lugers down a track is really freaking awesome. I absolutely love that.
But the omnipresent whining sound is taking some getting used to.
Not watching the Superb Owl on account of generally preferring the Olympics. (Hooray for Bad Bunny and Green Day, though. They’re what this country needs right now.) But I do have a quibble with watching the Olympics right now:
Quadcopter drones.
Now, don’t get me wrong…

We have 15 stories (3 novellas, 7 novelettes, and 5 short stories) on the Locus Recommended Reading List this year. Congratulations to all the authors!
That’s funny. I’m listening to Robert Inglis’ unabridged narration of LOTR right now (from back in the 90s)
Definitely an appropriate response. I absolutely did a “what the fuuuuuuuu…”
Huh. Forgot I was following him. Good riddance.
Trying not to cough as I recover from (relatively minor) abdominal surgery.
Otherwise, just swell!
Yeah, no kidding. Or Rasmussen right at the end there.
Right???
Note to self: do not throw your hands in the air in celebration less than 36 hours removed from abdominal surgery. No matter how beautiful and timely a Moritz Seidee goal is.
Ow ow ow ow ow.
