Arena of Suffering is live on Steam!

Try the demo if you're on the fence, or jump right in and start ripping through all these bosses. They're not going to defeat themselves! :)

Our first game goes live next Tuesday! I've already learned so many new tricks that it's hard not to go back and reinvent it, but I still love this cutie.

Okay, the Character Status window is working without any hard coding. Fully populating off of data (thank all the fates). I'm going for a crisp, minimal look for the window colors. But I don't want it to be bland either. Have I gone too far?

Holidays over and back to work. The battle system is really coming along well. I've added a nice auto attack (hold click on a monster and watch everyone dogpile them). Good for ending fights or smaller encounters.

Hard to build a wall without a brick. Yesterday was like that for me. Refactor something that I should have done differently from the beginning. Always learning! :) Keep at it, champ!

I haven't been doing mapwork lately (tons of battle internals). But I had a great bug and wanted to show it off. My characters look . . . larger than intended. Oops. Initiative tracker is working though! And the Log. :)

We just finished the weekend. So, I thought I'd mention what I've been playing! Ball X Pit was really fun last week, and yesterday I started checking out Escape From Duckov (very impressed).

What are you all playing?

The first major spell of the new engine. I wanted to combine a few things at once. Projectiles, tracking, our emitters, and sound. Heck yeah! :) Next challenge--going back to more engine development instead of making 20 more spells. :)

Godot continues to be a lot of fun to work with. The weather system and new map layering systems are playing with each other (correctly!). And Audio is still happy. Heck yeah. Make a Darude Meme or MST3K? Bah, no time! :)

Visual Novel Question

My wife is developing a VN Mystery/Romance. It's in a fictional Renaissance w/ animals (PG13--not too naughty). Here are the two leads. I wanted to know if you think our art is going in the right direction. Any notes?

Movement Testing

I implemented the new movement system and hooked in a temp footstep sound. I'm 48, and this still made me crack up for way too long. I wasn't going to post today (still in menu hell), but this was a fun break. :)

Crazy sense of scale. Very very well done.

One of the things that I've found the hardest to change about RPG Maker's systems is the "simple" stuff: menus and UI layout. It fights back when you try to change it.

Which JRPG has the best UI in recent years from your experiences?

ParticleCore, ParticleCore, Everybody loves ParticleCore. (I sing it in my head WAY more than I want to). But Weather and Particles are functional again. Yay!!!!!! Rain, snow, self lighting, event lighting, and global tints are all running!

We've got tint working and our player lighting back!!!! Between that and yesterday's audio system, we're getting a lot closer to having a good bit of our core functionality going again. BUT--UI overlays are coming up. Fate help me. :/

"I've made a Lighting plugin before, so doing a system from scratch probably won't be too much harder," he said.

Narrator: It was harder

Good news: The tint is working
Bad news: I can't turn it off yet (oO)

Three days into building a new engine in Godot, and it’s going really well. I used to be intimidated by it — it looked like too much work for a first game. Turns out, the flexibility’s totally worth it for my second one. More on that later (much later, lol).

Grats! Heck yeah. :) I started at the bottom and got up a decent bit, but I doubt I'll break that barrier quite yet. Good luck for more successes (for both of us)!

I know that in the long run I need to make a better Header Capsule for my game. This one is just GIMPed together, and it shows. But man, capsule work is tricky--always more to learn. Have a great weekend everyone!‪

You picked a very good choice for inspiration. :)

Don't worry, the after is a big step up. The lamps and fountain are especially noticable even before clicking to see the pictures. The scenes pops way more.

I'd love to. Should be some time next year!

Much better. As a very strange co-incidence, she's writing a visual novel (nowhere near release), but I think it's cool that she's interested in sharing her stories with more people. Her worlds are cool--she has been the GM for tons of our roleplaying campaigns.
