America Underestimates the Difficulty of Bringing Manufacturing Back — Molson Hart On April 2nd, 2025, our president announced major new taxes on imports from foreign countries (“tariffs”), ranging from 10% to 49%. The stated goal is to bring manufacturing back to the United States ...

Want to bring back manufacturing to your country? Read this... once again the world is just so much more complex that politicians believe. I don't agree with all the opinions within, but there's a lot here that is important. www.molsonhart.com/blog/america...

I was a British tourist trying to leave America. Then I was detained, shackled and sent to an immigration detention centre Graphic artist Rebecca Burke was on the trip of a lifetime. But as she tried to leave the US she was stopped, interrogated and branded an illegal alien by ICE. Now back home, she tells others thinking...

More disturbing stories about the detention centres. Among them, there was a couple in Canada taking selfies at the Peace Arch border. They accidentally strayed across the boundary and were taken into custody.

Map showing large lagoon that was drained after 1931 Napier earthquake.

I’m assuming there’s a reason this land hasn’t been built on before now - is it the fact that it was a lagoon before the earthquake?

You can still submit on the Treaty Principles Bill up until 11:59pm

It's better to submit something, even just a few sentences, than nothing

Great description of the rush to the National Assembly. That lawmakers made it there before the military may end up being the key to martial law ending

1. I’m thinking aloud here, as I really don’t have the answers. This is a thread about the political challenge of the very large numbers of young men now supporting the far right. I’m writing it without blame or derision. I’m just trying to find a way through. 🧵

I think it’s incredibly difficult for parents. And unless groups of parents in schools/communities band together to limit children’s access to phones & social media, monitor gaming etc, the pressure on kids and then parents to be online with all their friends is extremely difficult to withstand.

Kids are less exposed to traditional tv and books with more empathetic social norms than before. Many parents are too busy working, too stressed and on their own devices too much to counteract or even be aware of the influences their kids are exposed to.

As a teacher of 9 - 13 year olds, it is obvious at that age which students have empathy and which don’t. Boys especially spend many hours on YouTube and online gaming, exposed to a lot of racist, sexist, bragging content. I think those with less developed empathy are pulled to far right content.

Opinion | The case against driving city kids to school One solution for boosting youth mental health: Make kids navigate the city. That starts with getting them out of your car and onto buses and bikes.

“But the biggest change was in our boys. They no longer had to be dragged out of bed; they woke up early, excited to plan their routes & meet friends, arriving at school full of energy and ready to learn. The transformation was remarkable.”

Worth a read.

The first federal vote in which women were able to participate was the 31 October 1971 election of the Federal Assembly. However it was not until a 1990 decision by the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland that women gained full voting rights in the final Swiss canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden.

Why no New Zealand or Switzerland? Aren’t they the first and last countries where women gained the right to vote?
