I wish Israel had been given its marching orders. They could so easily have been expelled simply for gaming the voting system, if the EBU didn’t want to be drawn into the politics of it all. The BBC can’t take sides, but individuals can, and can choose not to engage with Eurovision .

They’re on a hiding to nothing as they can’t take sides. Pro-Israel people also pay the licence fee. They’d have to be ‘advised’ by the government to withdraw - and then they’d be accused of bowing to political pressure.

As much as I’d love that, there’s no way Israel is going to stop gaming the system, whatever they say, so it’s more likely they’ll win next year.
