I don’t agree with that reasoning by the way that’s just why they don’t see a problem with subsidizing roads.

That “some reason“ is value capture. Public transportation that is publicly owned doesn’t allow anyone to profit off of it. A freeway on the other hand allows multiple industries to profit from auto to delivery to auto accessories to in-vehicle entertainment to private transit like Greyhound.
Great documentary
Rescinding billions of dollars in rail grants from prior administrations was one of the first things Duffy did.
happy 420 lol🍃
I saw that discourse and while it was certainly over blown both instances do seem to share the common trait of creators not venturing far outside their comfort zone.
I'm thinking of it as if I were a writer, and to me, that's not worthy of one episode. That would be one character's whole arc across a portion of the series.
Some of these showrunners aren’t that much older than I am (42) but it’s like they look at our current culture with disdain. They won’t even try to understand it. They’ll pay lip service to it with plots like “son becomes a Twitch streamer” but never acknowledge the active daily participation.
I worked on a show not long ago where they were making references to Risky Business and Wizard of Oz and I remember saying to our director “so are our writers 100 years old?”
every new adult animated sitcom is a crazy talented animation crew trying to save the worst script a live action showrunner has ever written
I never disparage these shows bc the crew is always doing their best under a B-list celeb who ignores their advice & calls all the shots
emergency support needed asap

All signs point to CalCare (AB 1900) not going to committee, which might be fine since it would depend on Gavin Newsom‘s signature and he has vetoed a similar bill in the past. Might as well wait for the next governor.
Comic. I’m at my desk, leaning over to the doorway, saying “Hey! Foghorn! Foghorn Leghorn! Get in here!” Foghorn Leghorn is walking past the doorway, “Boy, I tell ya, I tell ya, not so loud, boy. What, I say, I say, what d’ya want?” Next panel, I’m gesturing to my computer. “How do I find that really good manga you recommended? It’s an anime now? I keep getting Halloween costumes.” Foghorn leans over my chair, “well, boy, I say, I say, you ain’t typin the entire title.” Last panel, I turn around- “you said ‘witch hat.’ Foghorn gets in my face- “open your ears, boy!! ‘Witch Hat Atelier, I tell ya! I tell ya ‘Atelier,’ I tell ya’”
How I’ve Been Pronouncing It (Feat. Foghorn Leghorn, my… roommate?)
Nope!
I’m OK with digital rentals! They are way cheaper than a monthly subscription to any streaming service, but sadly, I’m in the minority it seems. The number of people who rent are small. I wish it wasn’t that way because it is a good revenue channel.
Do you want to see the "big picture" on climate change?
Here it is.
Emissions are on the left, and include CO2, CH4, N2O, and f-gases. Natural CO2 sinks (from healthy forests & oceans) are on the right. And carbon removal, what little there is, is on the right, too. All expressed as GWP100.
Now it’s unremarkable sludge like “Woman can’t afford her horse, so she prays” or “Terminally sick kid recovers thanks to…God?”
We used to get movies with plots like “Grandpa goes back to college to teach kids about the Lord. Also he’s smarter and stronger than all of them somehow.” or “Man signs petition to protect traditional marriage, and every gay person in town wants to destroy his life.” or “Time traveling Jesus.”
I miss hilariously bad Christian movies. You could at least count on a few good ones a year. Now they just preach to their own audience.
Releasing it to theaters was one of the quickest and easiest ways fans could have financially supported the film, and had the communal experience of watching the film with other fans, and Paramount chose not to do that.
Meanwhile, everyone is buying tickets to the Digital Circus finale.
And even if I had Paramount+, they are already getting my money, whether I watch the video or not. At that point, I’m just giving them data, which isn’t money, but could translate to money, unless they choose to willingly ignore data, which evidence has shown streamers love to do.
What if I don’t want to sign up for Paramount+? Will they provide other means of watching the film like physical releases? Or revenue channels like merchandising?
I’m not trying to justify piracy or anything by posting this, but when people talk about straight to streaming movies like Legend of Aang and say “support the official release” and the distributor provides very few means to do so, I think at that point it’s on the distributor.
Yeah, I enjoyed the video. Even though he has repeated what others have already made videos from based on assumption, he actually got a front row seat and probably confirmed a lot of people‘s pre-existing biases.
We all have days like this
I’m reminded of when Will Menaker said that Americans would rather kill than live in peace with the rest of the world.
It's been a long week, y'all.
Yeah, I get what you’re saying, and I am definitely preferential to funding it yourself and controlling the IP.
But if I crowdfunded something, and turned around and sold it wholesale, I’d feel I owe the backers, because the physical perks typically do not cost anywhere near what they contributed.
go catch TV-MA on tour! 🩵
me & surasshu (@aivisura.com) will be performing with them in san francisco on may 2nd. hope to see you there!
Believe it or not, we would have no Michael Cusack shows if it wasn’t for Justin Roiland.
