Despite using a conservative method (assuming only half of those with a substance use disorder are suitable for and would seek treatment), our updated estimates show the significant, continued unmet need for AOD treatment in Australia, with less than half of those in need of treatment receiving it.
In Australia in 2023, we estimate that:
