There’s some good stuff on that table!
Do Canadians know how awful Indigo Books & Music is to their in-store workers? Support inpendent bookstores whenever possible.
The image shows the exterior of the National Archives building with large American flags hanging between the columns. A text overlay reads: "The AHA and American Oversight seek emergency court action to block Trump effort to evade Presidential Records Act."
Records that show how presidential decisions are made could be lost permanently.
These records are essential to understanding decision-making at the highest levels of government. The AHA and American Oversight have taken emergency legal action to protect them.

The old media regime dominated by TV and newspapers has perished, and the social media "revolution" has demonstrated its inability to fill the void left behind...now is the time for serious folks to be imagining the shape of what might come next.

IMF'S GOURINCHAS LESSON FROM 1970S, IS YOU DON'T WANT AN ENERGY SHOCK TO TURN INTO AN ONGOING INFLATION PROBLEM
Footnotes > endnotes every time.
We've built an entire economy around selling people the feeling of control through bets, hacks, subscriptions, and optimization. But the model only works if people stay desperate.
New essay on control and agency, financial nihilism, belief markets, the manosphere, and spectacle during war.
🧵 The Canadian federal government’s 2025 budget has allocated:
More business tax breaks including for fossil fuels sector
$925 million for AI
$81.8 billion over 5 years for military
However, this comes at the expense of cultural heritage.
Oil futures markets were, from the start, a neoliberal fantasy about efficient price discovery. The last chapter of my book covers this. This article, too: www.cambridge.org/core/journal...).

I can't stop laughing at this post. It's perfect.
Historians--is there any interesting work on the 'price of eggs' as a standin for inflation, pocketbook politics, etc. It is the go to right now--any previous examples?

I really hope the gov can see it through! Unfortunately, this kind of sensible development gets politicized, as if conservative voters wouldn't benefit from better public transit. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...
This past fall I was lucky enough to get to take a train from Paris to Lyon. It took 2 hours to go 467km. The distance from TO to QC is a little less than double that (805km). If we could get a train to do that in, say, 4-5 hours, we would really have something.
It takes way, waaayyy too long to take a @viarailcanada.bsky.social train from Toronto to Quebec City in 2026. Way too long. #Canada #transit
Reminder: Stocks of Suncor, the owner of, once public-owned, Petro-Canada, are up over 12% in the past month of war.

‘Without the labour of social reproduction – nursing infants, caring for children, cooking meals, laundering clothes, making beds, tending to sickness – there could be no wage labourers marching off to the fields and the workshops.’

I wish science could explain what’s happening.
I think about this every day. The reading habits of even the most dedicated readers are being eroded by labor intensification.

The federal government *dramatically overcompensated* for abuse by some colleges in international student visas, and now Canada's long-term prosperity and its university systems both get to suffer unnecessarily as a result.
