The USS Independence always had small fires too, the worst one being a berthing fire. There is a lot of flammable things in a berthing. We stopped it from spreading though.

Small fires have always been common, just not newsworthy until now.

1/2 I was stationed on two Aircraft Carriers, and I can't remember the number of fires I fought. The biggest one was in 1988 on the USS Constellation It was a one main machinery room fire due to a fuel leak. That went on for about 24 hours. There were always small fires.

Is that true in the Middle East? I was in a long time ago, and it was the Navy, but for ships in the Indian Ocean for example it went to Diego Garcia then was flown out to ships. The people sorting the mail out for each ship were people temporarily at Diego Garcia waiting to go to their ships.

It's not like USPS has postal workers delivery mail to those bases.
