Good lord why am I so afraid of level design?
Just realized I made a fatal syntax error in my website blog that made apostrophes and quotes not display correctly. And it’s been like that for over a week…
I fixed it now tho!
That’s unsurprising since Inkwell was largely built off of refactored Unity code I wrote nearly 3 years ago. Nothing short of a full rewrite would’ve fixed that and I just didn’t have it in me to restart development again
Been working on a new game and I have to say, it’s really liberating. It’s also made me realize just how bad Inkwell’s movement code was. It took almost no effort and far less code to get comparable movement in this new game

But with that, I've decided to release what I have. It isn't much and it's very unpolished, but I still enjoyed making it. It's also pretty fun for what it is. Feel free to try it out! Link to the download page is here: marblesense.itch.io/inkwell
So what does that mean for Inkwell itself? The game as it stands is done. I'm moving on. But I won't be abandoning the ideas that worked. You may still see the characters around on my socials, and some day I may return to the project with new and better ideas. (5/6)
So why am I saying "indefinite hiatus"? The truth is... I still love these characters and the world I made for them. The game as a whole may be a mess, but I still came out if it with things I could be proud of. It'd feel like a waste to abandon all of it. (4/6)
The original concept was a hodgepodge of ideas from childhood games I liked, both on the art and gameplay sides. The ideas I originally grabbed no longer appeal to me, and spending years trying to retool it into something I'd still enjoy making has left me burnt out. (3/6)
The project started all the way back in 2020, at which point I was very new to game development and had never finished a personal project before. Things have changed a lot since then, and what I've left myself with is a bit of a mess. (2/6)
