male Nutthall's Woodpecker (Dryobates nuttallii) - bird with black tail, white and black bands across its back, black and white around its eyes and a red cap, hanging under sycamore branch picking insects etc. view of bird is largely obscured from the viewer by sycamore twigs, branches and dried, brown leaves. The sky in the background, thru the tree, is vibrant blue and cloudless. Really, this is the best shot I could get for 2 hours of watching this bird flit frenetically among a mini-"forest" of mixed-species suburban trees. I could hear him calling as he moved between all the trees in the neighborhood and then back to my dozen or so. He is pretty though, per the short, clear glimpses I stole. I will try again tomorrow

I watched, ready, 2 hrs. This bird flew off, hid, everytime I lifted my phone cam. It's time for the Nuttall's Woodpecker (Dryobates nuttallii) visits. I managed to get an obstructed pic in sycamore today. As a consolation, I took one of my blooming succulent, jic the bird continued hidden

She was a guest author/lecturer for a semester at uni, back-in-the-day, and presented LHoD (among others). I remember LHoD as unexpectedly (to me) awesome & layered. It left a def impression that led me to re-examine her stories I'd read as a child (I was a voracious reader). worth it
