Just a quick update on the painting with the barn owl I started at the Alma Cafe. He has now been joined by three more owls and an elk. I have a story starting in my head. The owls are the watchers of the Wild Hunt and they need to save the elk. It'll probably have a tragic end but I'm not sure 🦌

Really - the first time I ate breakfast in MY LIFE was after I moved out on my own. I suppose I've been working through my real trauma for so many years before this that some forgotten aspect of my parent's food idiocy is the best that could be found 😂
My partner and I have been doing The Presence Process which is a meditation/shadow work course designed to bring out latent memories to be worked through. Thus far the only thing that has come up with me is totally random shit like the fact that my family never ate breakfast 🧵

Some I saw in Zim, and some that I just love, and have hung them from gilded brass chain and crytals to create a small selection of unusual sun catchers!
There are only 6 since that is all the bark I had!
Still images in the next post
Over the past few weeks since we have been back, I have bedecked them with tiny oil paintings of African Bird species -
While in Zimbabwe I collected a number of shards of naturally shed Matumi bark. I didn't know what I was going to do with them at the time, but they were so beautiful I couldn't resist! 🧵
... to Awagami's print competition. To my knowledge, they don't actually hunt Leguaans, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did if given the chance and that would be a battle for the ages to behold!
...and sometimes raid nests in the palm outside our apartment window. I've only ever painted them once - as Judgement in my Tarot deck, but have felt strongly called to them recently, so I decided to create a lino print of a Gymnogene fighting a leguaan (Rock Monitor lizard) for my entry...
Consorting with Dragons.
The Gymnogene (African Harrier Hawk) is my favourite of our river denizens and one of my absolute favourite birds ever. These enormous Vulture-like grey raptors with their double joined feet hunt squirrels up and down the Liesbeek...
Today started off pretty intensely with rushing this beautiful little man who was hit by a car to the vet. I hope he will be able to be released back here in a few weeks when he has healed.
yesterday I kept getting an image in my mind of one particular area of the forest I seldom go to and the urge of "get thine arse to the forest!" not in a lazy way, in an "there's something there for you way. The result - 500g porchini mushies that should never have existed!

Well, I suppose my patreon will actually cover my car insurance this month
After an intense vet treatment and a month of calcium injections, careful diet and so much love, she is now absolutely thriving! She growing so fast is now an energetic, round little cuddle with her own personality who has totally integrated with Luna and Zephyr. 🪶
She was so malnourished she was just bone, covered in baldspots and her feathers were falling out. She could barely lift her head.
Dr Karli gave her a less than 50% chance of surviving.
🧵
She was a fraction of the size and development she should have been, had brittle malformed bones, intestinal sloughing -her intestines were falling apart due to been fed pronutro. a terrible parasite infestation -been kept with cats and allowed to play where the cats poop 🤢who tf does that? 🧵
Wazô's whole family had been killed by this woman cutting down a tree in the middle of nesting season without checking for nests, I won't even go into the absolute cruelty this little bird suffered at the hands of this ignorant and unwilling to learn human over the next three weeks. 🧵
For those who missed the original post: When she came to us just over a month ago, she was a very sick and malnourished due to the woman who had kept her for three weeks previously had fed her an incorrect diet which included actually rotten fruit. 🧵
Wazô update! a few days ago, We got the all clear for baby Wazô from our wonderful vet. She is healthy, happy, energetic and full of life and personality. Her brothers adore her (and she them)
This little flock of three is my whole heart!
Wazô's story in the comments for those who missed it.
Image shows a very foggy and green cityscape with a treelined highway running diagonally through it
This one taken later with my partner's phone (and lightly edited by me) Is so much better! I love the fog so much! It was such a treat driving home through the pea soul
finally! A platform that doesn't shadowban me for posting links!
congratulations!
More coming soon now that she is well!
