While we are transfixed by the antics of our supposed "leaders", a catastrophe of astonishing proportions has been creeping up on us. Climate scientists now believe it is more likely than not to happen, and soon.

Who needs rainbows when you have Caherconree!
That’s a very thoughtful document, i would agree with the bulk of it. I’ve seen other reports though that question the value of free transport as a motivator, especially for existing car owners. It should be free for under 18s at least to build the habit and familiarity of bus use.
Is there a reason ye can’t provide the direct link instead of the homepage of the website?
Galway City Council is delighted to support our free (now monthly!) Repair Cafés. Please drop by and say hello on Saturday if you are interested, even if you aren't involved in repairs!
These events support Galway City Council's role as a Sustainable Development Goal champion.
‘I’ll be different from the rest’ - said every politician ever. #galway
So are you disputing the evidence provided and just maintaining a well-intentioned but ultimately ideological position for the sake of it?
BTW, for all those liberal types who said "the Irish far right don't do well in elections", here's a bit of a wake-up for you -
these lads have 24 councillors, four TDs and an MEP.
Start taking the far right seriously - the calls are, in this case literally, coming from inside the House.

thread on Galway West by-election candidate Noel Thomas (II), who is brazenly lying about the extent of his involvement with the sovereign citizen group styling itself the Irish Republican Brotherhood
Fantastic article, best I’ve seen about what’s at the heart of genuine protesters from agricultural sector.
More nauseating industry propaganda being pumped into our schools with no State regulation or oversight whatever, endorsed by that biodiversity champion, MHR.
Industrial forestry taking a leaf from livestock sector playbook.
I’ll take the 3 Hail Marys instead
I wish people would just leave the basking sharks alone. they are completely tormented by drones and boats and paddle boards etc

Sitka Spruce is promoted in school? A problematic non-native tree grown in large plantations that have created ecological impoverishment at scale nationwide in one of the least forested countries in the EU27?
Sitka Spruce is now 44.6% of Ireland's total forest

Exactly, it’s used by rural TDs at every chance they get
Varadker has pissed off the Independent Ireland lads because he spoke an element of truth, however ham fisted.
But what is never talked about, is how the so called Urban-Rural divide in politics is fostered & nurtured by rural TD’s because it suits them.
Same as unionism in the North.

Shame there isn’t parking nearby 🙄 sun up Galway in one image.
A dozen or so cars parked on a brand new bike path, Bóthar Stiofáin, Galway. Nearby, an event is being held to mark the unveiling of a plaque commemorating Steven Griffin, an Irish soldier who was killed in Lebanon (1980) while on duty with Unifil.
Utterly predictable — and you couldn't make it up.
Bóthar Stiofáin around lunchtime today.
Well, is it true Noel? #speirghorm
Oh I know. I was always a feminist. But motherhood radicalised me. Child rearing should be the absolute centre of human society. Instead of something women struggle along doing their best at in the margins, while men congratulate themselves for building the tallest tower.
And Galway? 🤔
The road will quickly be flanked by low density housing estates, business parks and shopping, with nothing resembling a functional public transport system to take people between these and other places they want/need to visit.
Let the urban sprawl begin.
Sure none of the other thousands of roads have ever improved congestion, but THIS time it will be different...
Leo Varadkar is getting some stick for his urban vs rural comments.
Urban population in Ireland is c 68% vs 32% using Eurostat's definition.
CROSS data would suggest 75-80% of Ireland's GDP / GVA would be attributable to Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford cities.
