Yes, by the time I got out of the van she had passed, so she didn't suffer
It was unfortunately a country lane rather than a main road so not really feasible to create any sort of crossing
It was a young female, thankfully not lactating (so no dependent cubs). Moved her to the verge so nothing else gets hit if they come to scavenge her. I'm just so absolutely mortified (and yes I did my PhD on the danger of roads to wildlife)
Hit and killed a Badger yesterday with my van. Couldn't avoid it. Cried so hard I nearly threw up and haven't slept. Might go and make a peace offering of peanuts to a local sett to try and assuage my awful guilt 😭
Started reeling constantly from 21:40 but too dark to see 😭
Back this eve for another go, I was here lunch earlier which was silly
I like it when they immediately get that you're feeding them
Unfortunately our reserves are often small and boardwalk based and there's not really anywhere private 😂
I used to give myself heatstroke in the summer because I wouldn't drink because I didn't want to pee outside 🥰 (I am now older and give fewer fucks and have already done so today once 😂)
Obviously this doesn't just impact women but there are obvious issues that a lot of women are going to find difficult to deal with
"Why aren't there more women in birding?!"
Oh so it's showing? I might go tomorrow
Kitties
My mum has an interesting delivery to make today 😂🐝🐝🐝
New guy just dropped (Dan's had this tank set up for like 2 months, and yes it's just him and snails)
I didn't speak to anyone today at Bayfield who had seen it or knows anyone who saw it, for what it's worth
I saw some a few days ago
She was super friendly and nice
No I'm not, thankfully. But will see what the vet says...
I've messaged my vet to ask if she can post mortem her, in case it's anything that could affect the others
Not the sort of message you want to get whilst being away but one of my newer hens, Junco, died unexpectedly overnight last night. Really gutted, she was so nice.
Fun afternoon near Bristol checking nest boxes, three Barn Owls and two Jackdaws! Ringed the Jackdaw chicks, will come back when the owls are bigger 😁
Nosy buggers
Lmao you clearly don't work in development, even that amount is peanuts
She tries really hard to walk nicely but then starts sprinting on the lead, hits the end, comes back into heel, then gets too excited and tries to sprint again 😅
They're not normally as "needed" as HMs build their own nests under many sorts of soffits/gables etc, whereas the other species are cavity nesters and need the presence of those cavities in order to nest or roost in the first place
For what it's worth, I *always* require developers to put in a combination of swift, bat, and sparrow boxes
Insanity. They'd also be used by bats, blue tits, house sparrows etc and I've never known a single developer actually object to them
