You’d better throw Paul Thomas Anderson’s THE MASTER in the trash while you’re at it, if you really are committed to the idea that a film produced by Megan Ellison is morally reprehensible

Probably a mix of some (very young) audience members not knowing the trans subtext of that particular subplot (or the Wachowskis being trans), signature cishet insecurity, and the general tendency of modern audiences to laugh at this kind of sincerity. Disheartening nonetheless!

Number of people cracking up laughing during the Racer X reveal at the end of IMAX Speed Racer last night lowkey broke my heart. It’s the most personal, achingly sincere, and blatantly queer element of the movie!

My favorite dysfunctional t4t couple. Tiffany’s makeover scene set to “Call Me” was life changing for preteen Nicole.

"Fandom deserves to be taken seriously" I actually can't think of anything more desperately in need of being taken LESS seriously.

Us, Cam, Invisible Man, upcoming Obsession, and I remember the Creep movies being pretty decent.

Also Avalon Fast (star of both films) playing polar opposite characters re: trans acceptance and being a director in her own right (CAMP), truly 2026’s Most Valuable Player. We love a talented multi-hyphenate.

I love the Castration Movie anthology films so much, simultaneously the most exciting and uncomfortable thing happening in both queer and independent cinema. Incredible exercises in empathy for deeply flawed and unlikeable queer characters, a humanizing necessity in the face of anti-trans backlash.

Getting to work on my next Arts Fuse piece about the New Trans Cinema/Trans New Weird film movement with a dual review of Alice Maio Mackay’s The Serpent’s Skin and the theatrical cut of Castration Movie Chapter iii, which just had its NA premiere at Brattle for @wickedqueer.boston.

By my count Blumhouse has about or less than five movies in its catalog that are actually good, one of which it rode the coattails of long after the director moved onto working with a different studio (Get Out).

Only difference is that Blumhouse works with lower, cheaper budgets because horror (usually) alway turns a profit at the box office.

Blumhouse is to horror movies what Marvel Studios is to comic book movies. A slop factory that shamelessly milked the success of a surprise hit(s) and largely produces low-quality junk that treats audiences as undiscerning idiots any holds little to no respect for the craft or history of the genre.

Film Review: "M3GAN" - Child’s Slay - The Arts Fuse M3GAN is a movie algorithmically generated to spawn as many memes about itself as possible before undiscerning viewers realize what they’re watching is a reworked Black Mirror draft.

Reviewed it for Arts Fuse when it came out. Not a fan to say the least. artsfuse.org/267317/film-...

M3GAN had the audacity to astroturf and manufacture a new “queer” horror icon in the form of a killer doll as if Chucky, Tiffany, and their trans enbie child Glen/Glenda weren’t doing that decades beforehand. You think I’m a snob about comic book movies? Wait till you hear my thoughts on Blumhouse!

Putting my Boston-based and personal biases up front for The Drama. Great movie to see with your partner on the verge of moving on together. Gotta appreciate any movie willing to go dick first towards an electrified third rail. Just my kind of romantic comedy.
