This was a delight to record. If you've never heard What We Do in the Winter before this is a great place to start. A very relaxed conversation covering a host of interesting topics.

My wife wonders if this will boost sales of Tunnocks Teacakes.

I just love my friends so much, you know?

Have you told your friends you love em recently? How's the chat looking? Phoned em for a gab in the last few weeks? Hung out in person if you can? You should do that. You should definitely do that. Humans are made to live and love and be in community.

The issue is money. If you want the podcast back (we loved doing it) we need a sponsor to pay the costs (our time + an editor). If you're a brand who would want to sponsor a season of it get in touch via robmanuel @ gmail dot com

Will be out doing a reading of this old friend in a bonafide Hobbit hole tomorrow. What a treat to spend time with such beautiful writing.

I devoured Berlin Game when I was in London last week, and I’ve moved on to Mexico Set. I hadn’t read Deighton before, and I’m hooked.

There's an app version of Quirkle. My wife is almost unbeatable now when we play. It's a lot of fun.

We love Azul and Azul Sumner Pavilions.
Not quite territory based like Carcassonne, but still very pleasing.
Quirkle is also a family favourite. I think there's a good chance that would work for them.

George Galloway: “I have been assailed all day by a “children’s book community” so vile and vicious I’m amazed they even let them near kids #redmolucca”. He was retweeted five times. An account named @winnie_the_pooh, not believed to be connected either to the Disney corporation or the estate of A A Milne, responded with one word: “Tosser.” and was RTed 213 times by the time this well-worn screenshot was taken, perhaps more afterwards

Well, if it’s 14 March, that can only mean... naturally: the ninth anniversary of one of the finest exchanges from The Old Place

Lovely. Very civilised. Nothing like sitting reading a book in a pub with a pint.

The Devils was shown around the same time as that in a Jarman retrospective, I think. I absolutely love his design work in that brilliantly mad movie. It's like Breughel brought to life contrasted with a Victorian sanitarium. Awesome.

The new box set of Excalibur from @arrowvideo.bsky.social is exceptional. Very excited to have it. Can't wait to see the docs and extras. There are few films that have made such an impact on my ife as Excalibur. I saw it when at sea with my folks at an early age and it's been with me ever since.

For sure. I'd embrace the futility of being like a penguin shuffling off into the distance.

If you ever use the Ainmean-àite na h-Alba place-names website please fill in this survey. (And if you don't us it, you totally should!)

As a translator, I use this every day and simply couldn't function without it! It would be good to hear everybody's words on how it can be improved.

Can’t believe I’ve made it this far into the Winter Olympics without reposting the official theme tune.

The secret for the UK one is to go early in September when the English schools have just gone back.
We hardly queued at all and even got to go on some rides twice!
The Danish one is amazing though.
We got in for free as kids by doing a small cèilidh style performance. Love Denmark.

It's sensationally good. We've got Smiley's People to watch soon. Can't wait to get back to it.
