My preliminary take on the new stats on federal job job cuts . Which depts and services could be hit hardest? There's plenty more analysis to come @policyalternatives.ca
Maybe too soon, but Bluesky is starting to feel like Twitter used to feel.
Wow, bravo! #polqc
"While [Carney] correctly identified the hypocrisy underlying the rules based order, his government has shown little interest in pursuing solutions," writes John Calvert in @policyalternatives.ca. #cdnpoli #canlab
Wow, congratulations! #cdnpoli
This is quite the duo. I will speak from personal experience that my understanding of decolonization would not be the same without @leahgazan.bsky.social’s kind mentorship in Winnipeg. Amazing activists I consider dear friends are involved in @avilewis.ca’s campaign. It’s an easy choice for me.
Worth a skim! Useful factbook by @jimbostanford.bsky.social for the ‘Elbows Up Economic Summit’ hosted by @policyalternatives.ca and the Centre for Future Work this past September. #canlab #cdnpoli
Good piece in @rabble.ca about enforcing worker safety legislation.
"Families of workers killed on the job deserve so much better," as @canadianlabour.bsky.social says. #canlab #cdnpoli
Impressive work by @emmaarkell.bsky.social for @pressprogress.ca, going sector by sector (transport, post-secondary, etc.) to show who could strike in 2026. #canlab #cdnpoli

In another example of US tech companies flouting rules in other countries, Google is refusing to comply. There should be serious consequences when companies do this.

"Federal unions claim Prime Minister Mark Carney is breaking a campaign promise with proposed spending cuts." #canlab #cdnpoli
5/5. I appreciated Angela's point that, given that cuts will be impacting all departments and other facets of society, we can easily branch off and silo in our respective struggles.
Effort will be required to unite around a common anti-austerity struggle. Solidarity is a verb.
4/5. It's a reality that the federal public service has grown, and people are instinctively seeing a need to balance the books. We need clear arguments as to why cuts are not the answer, and why investing in the public service is a solution for all.
3/5. I really like Angela's argument that we should reject the premise of cuts outright, and instead make a clear case of how public programs and public servants are directly benefitting people in their daily lives. This requires serious labour union, social movement, and NGO campaign work.
2/5. A wealth tax on the top 1 per cent of earners in Canada would exceed the $21.5 billion in "savings" being sought by the Carney Liberals through cuts, Angela notes.
This is ultimately about policy choices, and Carney is making right-wing choices.

Oh man this resonates with me, big time. Competitiveness creeping into personal life.
Weird to cheer for #Oilers while the prairies burn.
