Exactly. And you’re talking about a guy who had a 1.13 ERA from late August through to the end of the playoffs and who closed out the ALCS just fine.
The Jays need to tread water until players get healthy, but right now they don't seem to be doing even that.
This week @nickashbourne.bsky.social and I talk all about it, the new hitters, the ever-complicating starting pitching situation, Closer Discourse, & more!

I absolutely do not think that.
On a wild win, an "embattled" closer, Schneider, Straw, Sosa, Yesavage, Vlad, JoJo, Jason Grilli, Jackie Robinson Day, and more!
Never in doubt
On Lenyn Sosa versus Tyler Fitzgerald, demotion decisions, Valenzuela, Schneider, Okamoto, Lukes, Eloy, Scherzer, Bieber, and more!
On logy Lauer, more on Varsho, Springer's toe, Scherzer's forearm, Heineman's back, Valenzuela, Sánchez, a "pitchergami," and, of course, the debut of Eloy Jiménez
On double-digit runs, the Corbin experience, Yesavage's timeline, BJ Birdy, Brandon Valenzuela, injury updates, Okamoto, podcast stuff, Louis Varland, and more!
On a needed win, dull doomers, dumb Dodgers, Daulton Varsho, Patrick Corbin, Blue Jays Happy Hour, SWR, ABS, Okamoto, Yesavage, Freeman, Springer, Varland, Vlad, and more!

Alejandro Kirk's thumb was broken and dislocated by a foul tip on Friday. Brandon Valenzuela is up. PLUS: Brendon Little, Patrick Corbin, Trey Yesavage, Tyler Fitzgerald, and more...
Ahh, and apparently he's already up to 80 pitches, so maybe he gets a shot/thrown to the wolves before Yesavage is back.
Corbin has made $156 million in salary during his career, so he certainly doesn't need to do this. Take a flyer, I say!
Could he be an emergency guy at some point once he's built up? Sure. Certainly more than the *literally nobody* they seem to have right now.
So... hell yeah, go see if he can recapture something and, when they ultimately don't need him, maybe he can catch on elsewhere.
He's a lefty who averaged 91.5 on his fastball last season, posted his best HR/9 mark since 2019 last year at 1.22. I mean... he's not going to be a saviour, but that's not really what you're looking for in the reject pile anyway.
That 4.40 mark is actually surprising to me, seeing as he pitched to a 5.71 ERA (!) over nearly 700 innings with the Nationals from 2021 through 2024.
Durable? Check. But only able to show it because they were paying him too much to cut bait.
Corbin has been given a 40-man spot (there were two open ones, and that's with Cody Ponce and Anthony Santander not yet on the 60-day IL), and has been optioned to Dunedin.
The 36-year-old Corbin pitched 155 1/3 innings over 30 starts last year, putting up a 4.40 ERA.
Jays announce they've signed Patrick Corbin for some reason.
I have big doubts that the Jays would both hit the gas like that with Yesavage, and that they would remove those extra rest days, but theoretically possible!
That is, if I'm not missing something here.
From the post: If Yesavage pitches on normal rest after today he'd go on the 8th, 13th, and 18th.
With the off days and how the Jays are now lined up, if they just roll with four starters beginning with Lauer on Sunday, the next day they'd need a 5th starter is... the 18th.
Thanks!
Stray Thoughts on a strong start, losing Ponce, a possible Yesavage timeline, Scherzer, Cease, bullpen rocks, Brendon Little, Heineman, and more!
Roberto Alomar is a cynical opportunist with zero remorse who cares not if it hurts people to dredge up old allegations for public discussion without asking, and Steve Simmons has decided to help him so he can take shots at the Blue Jays' CEO.
This week @nickashbourne.bsky.social and I talk first impressions, Cody Ponce, Brendon Little, the Blue Jays bullpen, the players we chose in our recent Projected WAR Over/Under Draft, and more!

Fuck!!
That’s a crazy list to be number two on!
His curve generated more swing-and-miss last year than any pitch from any pitcher but one—in case you’re wondering why the Jays have given him so much rope
Wrote a bunch about Brendon Little here. stoeten.substack.com/p/springer-s...
