Utterly convincing on the benefits of rail, but also about so much more than just trains, describing how we can effectively create society and community that works for us all
Finally got round to reading @garethdennis.uk excellent book How the Railways will Fix the Future
Labour are going to have to find a new line other than they are the only way to stop Reform, because that clearly is not true
A screenshot of Lucy Powell MP's post which states that Labour are the "main contenders" in the Gorton and Denton by-election.
This (and every other post and letter like it) has aged like milk
It's nice to be learning about the sport of curling alongside Steve Cram
BBC reporting on Earth (presumably):
"Strongly contradicting narratives emerging on the Earth's shape today. Video from space appears to show the planet is round, but this is strongly disputed by many who insist on its flat nature.
Whatever the truth, this debate is likely to remain divisive"
WSJ investigation: In the past 6 months ICE agents have fired at vehicles 13 times, leading to:
* 8 people shot
* 5 of which were U.S. citizens
* 2 died
* no victims drew a weapon
The playbook: Agents box in a vehicle, block attempts to flee, then fire

Today we’ll get latest net immigration figures - They’ll show immigration for work is plummeting.
Why is this not part of the discussion on Rachel Reeves balancing her books & stalled growth?
For every 100,000 drop in net immigration, the OBR adds £7bn to the deficit. #r4today
Taking almost half a million children out of poverty is a very good thing, and it's ridiculous that Labour had to be dragged kicking and screaming to actually do it
Text: Rich households use much more petrol than poorest. With bar graph showing annual household spend on petrol and diesel, the richest households spend over £1200 and the poorest spend between £400 and £600.
Frustrating to see the fuel duty cut extended again. This is a policy that benefits the richest households much more than the poorest as they spend more on petrol. That's without even accounting for the environmental impact.
IMT recruitment even more competitve than last year. The Gov and NHS should hang their heads in shame at how they treat doctors.
Just wilful performative cruelty that is entirely out of step with the majority of British people.
How many Labour MPs got into politics in order to vote for stealing jewellery off of people seeking refuge from war and persecution?
Jesus Christ. We go mad about one bloke we wrongly released, yet hear next to nothing about this horror? www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...
Tonight's traitors voting is probably a good prediction of the chaos we'll see in the 2029 election
Shortly after accusing all other political party leaders of believing in "the magic money tree", Kemi Badenoch announces her plan to completely scrap stamp duty, without any word on how she plans to pay for it
As Yvette Cooper pushes forward new laws to make it harder for child refugees to get safe passage to join their parents in the UK, here's a picture of her from 2020 campaigning for the complete opposite.
They're really just saying the quiet bit out loud now
Runcorn result may start bitter debate within Labour Henry Zeffman Chief political correspondent "On every door it was the same story — winter fuel and PIP." Those were the words of one disconsolate Labour campaigner I just spoke to as they emerged from the Runcorn and Helsby count. This is undoubtedly a great result for Reform UK which suggests their polling surge is real, and then some. It also may prove the start of a bitter debate within Labour about some of the most controversial decisions the Starmer government has made in its first 10 months.
make people’s lives worse, lose seats
Labour losing Runcorn was avoidable and as much a result of our party’s failures as Reform’s rise.
Now, we need to learn the right lessons, not double down on the same mistakes.
Cutting disability benefits and scrapping the Winter Fuel Allowance made voters abandon us. [1/3]
These local election results should kick Labour to be much bolder, much quicker, and tack away from Reform's agenda or risk much worse results in years to come incl GE2029
I wrote about another unacceptable farce - the inability of highly qualified doctors to enter training here, if you're interested 👇
Time to call out that this distressing farce has been completely normalised.
So-called 'placeholder' jobs which are part and parcel of this process every year now, are completely unacceptable to hard-working individuals who deserve much better.
A return to austerity is literally the opposite of what we should be doing
This is a new level of madness. I don't know how it can be stopped
Good morning to this man, and this man only #bbcqt
