I rode several loops this morning and trips were averaging 17 minutes, which is just slightly slower than the 12-15 target. Not bad for the first day, given lots of other vehicles in the bus lanes and with the traffic signal prioritization not fully complete (was told that’ll be done by May).

Nope, MARTA’s mentioned in the past that their ecosystem is a little slower to accept updates. Hopefully soon.
Spent a fun morning riding the new Rapid A-line, Atlanta’s first bus rapid transit project: www.ajc.com/news/2026/04...
You may have a different bus starting today. Look up how your route is changing ⤵️
Happy NextGen bus network launch day to all Atlantans
Please, please call or text 988 if you or someone you know is struggling. www.ajc.com/news/2026/04...
I’m not aware of any tracking of ghost buses. Our analysis was based off GTFS data and data from MARTA showing cancellations and the reasons for them.
Thank you!
LASTLY! Your bus route is probably changing starting Saturday. We made a tool to look up your current route and see how it's changing. 🎁link: www.ajc.com/news/2026/04...
There's also a tool to look up how often your bus route was canceled in 2025. Another🎁link (but if you find this work valuable, please subscribe because it takes TIME!): www.ajc.com/news/2026/04...
Ahead of the NextGen bus network redesign launching SATURDAY, @stephanielamm.bsky.social and I looked at 3 years of MARTA's bus cancellation data. The new network requires fewer operators and fewer buses, which should help reduce cancellation rates. 🎁link: www.ajc.com/news/2026/04...
Trip planner
Using the MARTA Tracker & Trip Planner, you can now set your departure time for a trip as April 18th (or later) and see what your trips will be like when the new bus system goes into effect on that date.

A CQ400 train at the Airport Station
First time I’ve seen in the wild!
A new orange MARTA Breeze card in the foreground and a new MARTA card dispenser in the background.
Bought my new Breeze card at the Airport just now and can report that it was as easy to buy as MARTA has promised!
Also: my understanding is that while the old Breeze cards are active thru May 2, people who have a balance on the card could tap to pay even where gates are open.
(Will they is a different Q, lol)
All the new gates won’t be installed until the fall. So I could see a scenario where someone’s route temporarily includes old gates at both ends of travel and they avoid paying, but most people will encounter a new gate at some point and need to tap (and pay) there.
Here’s my understanding:
March 28-May 2: all gates are open, but MARTA is asking that riders still tap when possible
After May 2: new gates close, require a tap to open. Old gates remain open
Yet another (93+) Wrong Way Waymo:
DeKalb Ave & Krog St (Tunnel), Atlanta, GA
Note the left rear door opened briefly. Many Waymo passengers in errant/stuck robots have chosen/had to get out and make their own way through traffic, construction sites, foliage, and even off a fwy.

Jonathan Hunt has talked a lot about how there will be short term pain for long term improvements while MARTA gets these big projects over the finish line, and this looks like one example of that.
Yep, gates will be open so a bus > train transfer will be seamless.
So exciting!
Out with the old Breeze cards, in with the new (and tap to pay, wherever new equipment has been installed - still a work in progress). Here’s a breakdown of the Better Breeze changes that start TODAY: www.ajc.com/news/2026/03... (🎁 link)
Virtual cards are coming I’m told.
This legislation to abolish GRTA and the ATL and create “TEA” caught many by surprise yesterday: www.ajc.com/news/2026/03...
Not sure, thx for flagging. I’m on iOS but looks like the web tracker is working as an alternative: tracker.itsmarta.com/plan
MARTA properties are home to some who have nowhere else to go. The transit agency’s case workers are trying to change that by giving unhoused passengers shelter and job help — and hope: www.ajc.com/news/2026/03...
A UGA grad who spent time at Savannah’s Hunter Army Airfield:
I don’t know the $ figure off the top of my head, but there have been operational More MARTA expenses. This is the crux of the audit debate between city and MARTA.
The steady march of the armadillo continues, unbothered by human trivialities like the North Carolina border.
