Love this colour combo! ✨
The real ones will never forget. 🫡
K.R. Byggdin, a white nonbinary teaching assistant smiling beneath their face mask, stands in an empty university classroom in front of a projector screen that says “Reading and Writing Stories. Tutorial Group 4. December 8, 2025. Our final tutorial!”
That’s a wrap on my post-lockout term at Dal. 10 weeks of classes, 9 tutorials, umpteen emails & office hour chats, 384 assignments graded. 😵💫 I may be classified as “part-time” on my pay stubs, but I’ve been working 7 days a week to keep this semester on track for my students. Ready for a rest. 🎁🎄😴
If CBSA refuses to explain why it thought a *95 YEAR OLD* retired Princeton law professor and UN special rapporteur might be a threat to national security, Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree should
Instead of trying to green cars so much why don't we just invest in trains. city trains. under ground trains. above ground trains. trains between cities. trains between countries. TRAINS
THE PEOPLE CRAVE TRAINS
Assassinating the people you’re negotiating a ceasefire with in the country that is serving as the neutral negotiator is exactly the kind of self-destruction that will end Israel.
Solidarity to the @dalfaculty.bsky.social members locked out by Dal today. I couldn’t name a single VP from my time there, but I can sure sing the praises of the profs who fostered a conducive learning environment for my classmates and I in the midst of a global pandemic. They deserve a fair deal.
Yes please.
Emancipation Day. The post from the PM. People were enslaved in Canada, that's why we talk about Emancipation Day on August 1. Depersonalizing it by citing the British Empire is weak. I still laugh that folks don't understand why the 1834 Foundation is called the 1834 Foundation in Canada. 1/
Big fan of Bar Kismet!
but if i'm not allowed to feed artists into my artist killing machine it's going to be basically impossible for the machine to keep killing artists. is that what you want?? and before you answer keep in mind this is a very expensive machine
K.R. Byggdin and their spouse wearing keffiyehs on the grounds of the Manitoba Legislature. Behind them stands the statue of Louis Riel.
I wear my keffiyeh as a public declaration that I stand against these atrocities now. We don’t need to wait for the history books to tell us what is happening in Gaza and the West Bank is wrong. We can see it with our own eyes and feel it in our hearts. It is up to all of us to demand an end to the present suffering and to bring about lasting liberation no matter how long it takes. This scarf is a symbol of the enduring strength, resilience, and perseverance of the Palestinian people. And I will never take it off. Peace to Palestine. Justice for Palestine. Free Palestine.
In 1885, Louis Riel said that “Deeds are not accomplished in a few days, or in a few hours. A century is only a spoke in the wheel of everlasting time.” In 2023, Omar El Akkad reminded us that “One day, when it’s safe, when there’s no personal downside to calling a thing what it is, when it’s too late to hold anyone accountable, everyone will have always been against this.”
I wear my keffiyeh to remember the Nakba and protest decades of ethnic cleansing and apartheid. I wear my keffiyeh because my government is complicit in the arms trade and political indifference that allows this active genocide to continue. I wear my keffiyeh as a white settler in Canada because the same colonial violence at work in Palestine over the past 80 years has also been at work in Turtle Island for centuries. And as a queer and trans person, I wear my keffiyeh because I know all struggles against oppression are linked and none of us are free until all of us are free.
Riel’s statue depicts him wearing the Métis sash, a woven belt once used during the fur trades that is valued today as an important symbol of Métis history and culture. Like the Métis sash, the Palestinian keffiyeh has also evolved from a practical garment to a symbol of identity and anticolonial resistance. My keffiyeh comes from Hirbawi, the last remaining textile factory to produce the scarf in occupied Palestine.
The government of Canada recognized Louis Riel as a founder of Manitoba in 1992, but in his lifetime, Riel was twice expelled from the House of Commons and prevented from taking his seat as the duly elected member of Provencher, the riding I grew up in and where I cast my first federal ballot. Riel’s efforts to defend the Métis people against Canada’s colonial expansion both politically and through armed resistance led the government of the day to execute him for treason.
Yesterday as my spouse and I walked through the grounds of the Manitoba Legislature to visit the statue of Louis Riel, a man on a bike did a double take when he saw our keffiyehs. “Take those f—king things off,” he shouted as he circled back to us. “F—king idiots! Go f—k yourselves! Shalom! Shalom!” It was such a strange sensation, hearing this word for peace hurled at us with such vehemence and hatred.

Takht-e Tavoos on College is by far and away my fave brunch spot in the city! Only open on Sat & Sun 10-3 but well worth the wait. And as a literary bonus, there’s a beautiful mosaic of Persian poetry on the walls. 🙂 pomegranatetoronto.com/takht-e-tavo...
Authors Emma Donoghue and K.R. Byggdin in conversation at the Park Place Theatre in Halifax.
I had such a lovely time chatting with @emmadonoghue.bsky.social this evening about her latest book THE PARIS EXPRESS. Thanks to @afterwordsliterary.bsky.social for having us in and @kingsbookstore.bsky.social for selling our books!
Twitter post/pohoto from JK Rowling who sits on what looks like yacht, taking a puff of what looks like a cigar. She holds a cocktail close to her face and looks smug as fuck. Text on tweet: I love it when a plan comes together. #SupremeCourt #WomensRights.
Text on screen: our.moral.imperative British billionaire JK Rowling has posted several gloating tweets today after the UK Supreme Court ruled that only 'biological women' legally count as women, excluding trans women from legal protections and safeguards. Rowling's vicious smear campaign against trans people in Britain has been going on for several years now and has played a major role in cultivating the extremely hostile and toxic environment that exists in the country towards trans people, particularly in the name of liberal 'feminism'. @fight_for_a_future @rowllingofficial
You all need to treat Harry Potter IP like we’re treating the Tesla brand.
It's been said before, and I'll say it again:
For being innate and immutable, the sex binary sure needs a lot of protecting.

Canadian exceptionalism is just a different flavour of U.S. exceptionalism. Canadian history is as laced with injustice and human rights abuses as that in the U.S. - there is a reason Canadian mining companies are so hated globally. "We're better than the U.S." is not an identity, folks. Nor honest.
5/🧵 Thanks to @kingsbookstore.bsky.social and Wild Prose Reading Series on Instagram for making me aware of this pressing issue!
