Also I’d definitely recommend checking out Monstrous Regiment - it’s standalone and doesn’t need any extra context, and is a lot more focussed than Reaper Man.

I tend to forget about the extra plots in this one because I love Death’s story so much. The sequence where he’s sharpening his scythe on softer and softer material is cool as hell. Pratchett definitely does tone down the wizards in later books (though they are pretty central to Hogfather).
Taking note of this.
Mine is all over the place in comparison, but I do love the new hardbacks

Hell yeah! I’d probably say Mort is the weakest of the Death books so you’re in for a great time if you liked that!
The Doubleday hardbacks are really nice, however!
And it’s also a thought experiment about a prison, not advocation for mass surveillance of innocent people lmao
Also the whole point of the Panopticon (as a thought experiment) was that if people thought they could watched you didn’t have to actually watch them, not that they were being watched at all times. Which is also bad but can politicians not at least read the mad shit they’re referencing.
Probably my favourite Morricone score, and that’s saying something
