250 nurses gathered in Truro for the Nova Scotia Nurses' Union Annual General Meeting where numerous Locals pledged over $10,000 towards the strike fund for our striking brothers and sisters with CUPE. These long term care workers are on strike across the province. We stand in solidarity with them.

The Nova Scotia Health Coalition exists to promote the public health care system, ensuring quality care for Nova Scotians. The NSNU is proud to support the work of the NSHC through ongoing advocacy and annual funding, helping to strengthen and protect public health care across the province.
This year, we are pleased to welcome Farrah Allen-McKay, Executive Director of the Colchester Food Network, to the Glengarry to accept this meaningful contribution. We are so proud of our members for continuing to make this important initiative possible year after year.
For many years, the NSNU has collected dignity donations at our Annual General Meeting, supporting those in need with essential menstrual health and personal care products. Thanks to the generosity of members, thousands of dollars’ worth of items have been donated to date.
On this morning’s meeting agenda, members in attendance will hear from Dean Steinburg, Director of Security for Nova Scotia Health. He will discuss the details and how these advancements are making a tangible difference in the security of Nova Scotian patients and hospital staff.
NSNU President Janet Hazelton, accompanied by Executive Director Chris Albrecht, will provide AGM attendees with a collective bargaining update.

NSNU members are debating 8 resolutions pertaining to elections, violence in the workplace, mental health, and other matters. Presentations may continue into tomorrow depending on the duration of debate and voting.
On this morning’s meeting agenda, members in attendance will hear a financial report, presented by Finance Committee members and Director of Finance and Operations, Tom Daniels. Members are provided the opportunity to ask questions of the Committee following the presentation.

On June 3rd, 2025, the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU) apologized to First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples for the harms Indigenous Peoples have faced historically and currently face in health care. Today, the Nova Scotia Nurses’ Union extends this apology on behalf of NSNU members.
The 2026 Annual General Meeting of the Nova Scotia Nurses’ Union has been called to order. Members are now receiving a warm welcome from NSNU President Janet Hazelton, which will be followed by the introduction of our Board of Directors, guests and student participants.
