I’ve never seen a livestream just pop up natively in the YT app for me, unless it’s a creator I already follow. And the few livestreams I have watched, I haven’t particularly found the UI very intuitive or conducive to engaging chat. 🤷‍♀️

Off to TwitchCon tomorrow! Travel of any kind always brings me lots of anxiety, as well as being outside my comfort zone (ie my cozy house by myself) but I’m so excited to see my friends and connect with so many talented creators! And eat burritos, of course.

Some people came into my stream tonight while I was playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and completely spoiled the game for me, on purpose. Why do people have to be so fucking shitty? I genuinely don’t get it. It costs nothing to be kind.

An update:

Our class held a fundraiser on campus yesterday, a Super Smash Bros tournament. They raised over $500 that was split between the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and the Pasadena Humane Society. I am so very proud of them.

I genuinely thought this was a photograph for a second. You fucking rock, dude.

I think my heart exploded. What a beautiful and selfless gesture. The kids are alright, y’all.

To that end, if anyone has any suggestions for fundraising activities or events for a class of college kids/gamers, and/or some organizations we can support, please let me know!

I asked him what platform he wanted (Nintendo, Steam, etc) and he said he wanted to think about it.

The next night after class, he comes to me and says he would instead like to donate his winnings towards the relief effort against the LA wildfires, and asked what we can do as a class to help. 2/3

Every year in my class after we do our Halo study, I bring my Xbox and have my students compete to see who can survive the longest in the last mission of Halo: Reach, with the winner getting a gift card to the gaming platform of their choice. A young lad won by lasting 6.5 minutes. Impressive. 1/3

First day of class, I have my students introduce themselves/ their fav game. Tonight, one student tells me his favorite game is Halo 3, which he played when it came out. I say “oh wow, how cool!” And he replies, “Yeah! I was only 2, but it’s a classic!”

I am so tired. And apparently, a fossil.

2024 has been Hell until now. Being unemployed, finally getting a job only to realize how toxic it was, being unemployed again, to finally finding the best job, rediscovering my passion to create, releasing my first book, & learning I’m becoming an auntie again. It gets better, I promise. Hold on. 💜
