Still, I know the publication was widely read, and it updated Latvians abroad about the struggle for freedom, stories, events, and obituaries.

@englishmaninlatvia.bsky.social listened to your podcast on media, and I’d make one footnote to it. There was also the publication, Laiks, which many Latvians in exile in the United States received. I couldn’t read a word of it, since my mom didn’t raise me speaking Latvian!

Thank you. That would be amazing! We’ll be in Riga from the 14th to the 22nd or thereabouts. I’ll hit you up later!

@englishmaninlatvia.bsky.social left a glowing review of your podcast on Apple Podcasts. Thank you so much for hosting this podcast. My partner and her son are traveling there this coming June! I will be using some of your suggestions as I plan our time there. Paldies!

Maybe it’s time to bench Bo for a game, and see what happens. The offense needs some kind of jumpstart

Over 21,000 at a Portland Thorns women's soccer match last night in Portland, Oregon.

Nope, not a war zone.

Love this way of protesting at the ICE facility in Portland. Like yeah… people in pajamas with pastries are militant insurrectionists burning down Portland?

I got to listen to that podcast on Friday. You got me googling images of this mini-bus. Very cool! How hot did it get inside there? Could you feel the bumps and turns? Looking at visiting Latvia next summer. I will be looking for those mini-buses!

Good Lord! An undersized electrical box for the number of wires and nuts coming into it. Some of the wires not sufficiently secured. Gah!

Such a wonderful episode! My girlfriend and I are considering a vacation to Europe, and I’d love to get back to Latvia. I’ve heard so much about Sigulda, and your episode left me ever more curious about that place.

Enjoyed listening to this episode. Any idea if there’s a movement towards a craft nonalcoholic beer there? Here in the PNW there’s several craft nonalcoholic beers in pubs and at the grocery store.

Exactly. I wander in my yard, proud of all the invasive plants, I have removed, and then I spot a stinky Bob waving its blossom in between a Maiden Hair Fern and Pacific Waterleaf. Gah! Then I yank the damn thing

Thanks for your reply. Certainly that’s unfortunate, but I imagine that sitting on the property instead of repairing is cheapest option for some owners. I do look forward to returning to Riga to see all those being repaired in 2014 finished!

When I was in Latvia in 2014, there was a lot of construction restoring the facades on the Art Nouveau buildings. Is that still the case? I know that there was little effort during the Soviet era to maintain many of those buildings

I love it! I have been quietly going around and cutting English Ivy at the base of trees. We got to get aggressive with the invasive!!
