Roberto Clemente (August 18, 1934-December 31, 1972)

On New Year’s Eve 1972, Roberto Clemente, a baseball player for the Pittsburgh Pirates, died in a plane crash off the coast of Isla Verde, Puerto Rico, on his way to help earthquake victims in Nicaragua. Clemente’s body was never found.
