What’s happened with SCBWI-BI? I clearly missed an email! #kidlituk
Aw thank you so much! ❤️
Last summer I wrote a story inspired by the lure of the sea and what it means to make your own space in the world. It’s loosely based on a very special fishing village we grew up in.
I sent it to a couple of magazines and very sweetly they both wanted to publish it. So here it is - again!
🧵So excited that Northern Gravy have published my #kidlituk story Estie’s place. It’s a fab magazine with some great authors featured:

Title: Possible Early Precursors to World Book Day 1. Boktide, 1000ad A grand tournament of literature, culminating with the king choosing one 800k For 'Ethelred's Book Club' and writing a blurb for the cover. 2. Night of Sacrifice, 800ad By the light of the full moon, offerings of overdue books and tiny sums of money were made at shrines to the savage librarian-god Schussh. 3. Day of Banishment, 600ad The weakest member of the tribe was given writing materials, sent into the wilderness and only allowed to return if they wrote a bestselling book.
Happy World Book Day!
There just aren’t enough layers. I have the nose of a Labrador.
Word of the day is ‘arsle’ (19th century): to have a distinct sense of going backwards.
It does seem to be refreshingly friendly!
Soz. I tried to donate blood once and they told me not to come back. Come the vampire revolution, we’ll be laughing.
This does seem to be the one. Although there’s no man telling me what menswear I need to be wearing this season and no one shouting at me about God - so maybe it’s just an adjustment.
Great, I sent it through last month to submissions@, although it pinged back on auto reply to say you were closed, so hopefully it hasn’t been consumed by the ether!
Which feeds do people follow on BSky to see things? I feel like my feeds are all a bit random at the moment, so I’m reverting to Insta!
Unsolicited writing advice, no. #1614:
Not all writing happens at a desk. If you're feeling stale, feed your mind - go for a walk, read a book, talk to someone, do something new. You don't find inspiration in looking at a screen all day...
This is very exciting. My 6yo just devoured Mission Microraptor, perfect blend of humour, adventure and warm fuzzies! 👏
Thanks Paula!
Hi Paula, Happy New Year! If you requested the MS in the WriteMentor pitch event, would you like the package now, or wait till you reopen? I think there’s one or two others that missed your window too!
