Hi lovely people. I am hoping to get some teachers of GCSE American West units to complete a short survey. It will help with my PhD research into pupil metanarratives about Indigenous peoples and C19th US expansion.
You can access the survey here: york.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...

I think I like last one better! ;)
In case you missed it, we published an update on the Manchester school library story @indexoncensorship.org
Including plenty of completely outrageous details.

Read this. It’s not just germane to schools.

My latest post that offers a practical response to LLMs and educational use.
@freereed59.net - prompted by your question.

Yes, in answer to your first question. My blog is still up and has my posts on it: www.nickdennis.com
I’m no longer on X.
As for no one listening, there are some people.
Are you a state school teacher interested in one of our part time courses who went to school in Wales?
We have two full home fees scholarships for current teachers who attended either a state school in Wales or one of the Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools.

The underlying tech.
Thanks for the detail. How much technical understanding is taught about how LLMs work to PGCE students?
Looking forward to being part of the conversation!
Last chance to book a place at the SHP workshop 'How to build a robot historian' (still loads of places for the livestream). Teacher presentations about how to train AI for the KS1-KS5 history classroom alongside Marnie Hughes-Warrington's keynote. Email d.lyndon-cohen@leedstrinity.ac.uk to register
Thanks - really useful!
Out of interest, what does history ITT courses say about LLMs?
After I have done some more work on my MBA dissertation!
Good news - already drafted and will be out next week!
This is one of the effects of the 'win' for the knowledge turn - standardisation has dulled professional agency. The issue now is what can be done in the face of the apparently settled consensus.
And we are the ones doing the boiling at the same time?! I think that attention has been drawn to other areas (the CAR, the currently settled notion of curriculum) at the moment.
'The very thing that makes the teacher irreplaceable in the institutional version of curriculum theorising is the very thing being given away in the hybrid version.'
Everything you know about curriculum is right, and that's the problem.
The ‘knowledge turn’ made the curriculum appear stable, but AI is pulling it apart. My latest blog post referencing my guest lecture at The University of Buckingham Faculty of Education. open.substack.com/pub/nickdenn...
Really enjoyed this morning's session with the University of Buckingham Faculty of Education’s MEd students discussing what we mean by 'curriculum' and how the 'knowledge turn' has become the default position (and what this now means). Thanks to Bethany Kelly for the invitation!
