Call for Proposals - MakeShift 2026: Accountable Tech by Design
Digital and AI systems shape public life, but most people can’t see how they work.
We invite designers, artists, technologists, and researchers to reimagine how we design technologies that are legible, accountable, and trustworthy.

We worked with Throneless Tech to stress-test Bitpart, a secure comms platform for journalists & activists. Using Disaster Games and Personas Non Grata, we mapped risks across the human stack. Key takeaway: sustainability, governance & documentation are security.

Design theory isn’t just for designers. If you’ve ever tried to make a process easier for someone else, you are designing.
This short video breaks down how objects (and software) signal what they want us to do.

Our latest bite-sized video looks at how visual choices influence what we notice, click, and avoid.
This is a useful reminder that #UI #design is never neutral, and that even familiar “Continue / Cancel” buttons carry assumptions about behavior and power.

Platforms say kids are protected.
Research says otherwise.
Children aren’t just harmed by content but also by design: defaults, dark patterns, friction & “safety” features.
That’s what Veszna Wessenauer explains in her Superbloom piece.

You might be more of a designer than you think.
Here’s a bite-sized video by Superbloom’s Molly Wilson explaining affordances—how everyday objects signal what we’re “supposed” to do, and why that matters for design + security in software.
