What a nice place to sit… this reminds me I have a river I should visit

There are multiple variations for each letter btw
Wait, what? Bye Google
If I were using they in the singular I would assume I meant anyone regardless of what other, more precise or personal pronoun they chose. If they wanted a different pronoun and I was talking about them specifically I would shift it to their preferred pronoun.
I’ve been really impressed by this freshman class
It’s not like it was in the 90s. It does require more patience and less “lock them out of the lecture if they’re 5 min late” mentality. But I’m ok w/that if they do the work (themselves) and try hard, which they seem willing to do.
Idk I saw a shift last year from post-COVID education to post-post-COVID education so I hope all the profs who are still struggling w/the majority of their students being non-responsive hit the post-post-COVID seam soon … only a handful (normal pre-COVID number) of my students are still like that.
I mean I’m flexible, patient understanding, kind, as much as I possibly can be, but I also maintain high standards and they meet them (sometimes it takes some of them longer but they get there)
(Last day feelings) oof almost all of my Comp students have done such great work this semester — and I wasn’t easy on them at all.
It’s the last day of school and only a half day for me (I let Games and Typography out early) and it’s a good thing b/c I have zero energy left this semester. I’m done.
Me: I can’t teach any more new classes
Also me: what if I proposed an upper level English course on book/print history and textual/material methods

Racism is a helluva drug 💊
I use it for “I’m totally innocent, wink wink” “I’m angelic and I mean this angelically, /s” but ig religious people might mean it seriously
I have no idea what your friend wants to say with this argument so I don’t want to contribute to making it more of an argument!
Uhhh I don’t know, I think “they” is inclusive by default and it’s a little weird to say “inclusive they” but I’m not an expert on this nor do I know the entire context.
Afaik “they” is inclusive by default

Y’all not sleeping, you need to sleep! It’s basic, how are you depriving yourselves of it unless you must? Y’all not caring for yourselves, just push push push, go go go, & half of y’all be disabled already. Listen, grind culture is pure capitalism & you don’t need it in work for social change.
British poet J.H. Prynne has died at 89. Influenced by American Black Mountain School poets such as Charles Olson, he was a key figure in the British Poetry Revival of the late 1960s & 1970s. #RIPJHPrynne

Some academics are like “I couldn’t possibly teach X! My dissertation isn’t about X!” But I’m like “Whatchu need, I gotchu fam” b/c I think teaching is about teaching, not about content. I can learn content. But there are only so many things I can realistically keep in my head during a semester.
If I was willing to let them just mess around and not create a print-ready book that actually looks decent (each), it would be fine.
The typography course is a good course and student output is mostly great, and it’s a humanities course where they get hard skills, but it’s also as much work as my other 3 classes combined, even though it has fewer students, b/c everyone’s project goes wrong differently and I have high standards.
Like yes, I can teach all your courses 😆 but that doesn’t mean I want to or should. I would honestly be happy just teaching comp.
I begged out of teaching my typography course again and luckily a friend of mine who also enjoys book arts (and is also contingent) is going to take it over for the Fall term, I think. Hopefully this will mean I can teach Games, which I am not scheduled to teach b/c they want me to teach poetry
They’re very intriguing because he was right there. They’re like “a journalist writes a ‘totally fictional’ account of Europe from 1914+”
They were out of print for like 50 years, idk why, but I suspect related to the Red Scare. I don’t actually know. They were bestsellers in the 1940s, then went out of print till like 2016.
Idk it's just interesting to remember that my reality is totally different from other people's, even people with similar concerns.
A student remarked that she didn't remember comments being made about Clinton's appearance when she ran for President ... but of course she didn't. She was a child. And even if she had noticed it then, the bulk of her life (including COVID trauma) has happened since then.
(Grading) you know what's weird... most of my students are 18. Trump has basically been president since they were 8. They remember COVID, but they can't remember Obama.
