Terrible road surface in 2023.
New tarmac. 51°49'25.7"N 1°06'44.9"W 51.823811, -1.112469
People may remember what the Fencott rd, SE from Murcott, around Otmoor (NE of Oxford) used to be like - a failed road surface. It's been resurfaced, with a full new hot rolled tarmac mat, including the hill up to the Brill rd T-jnctn. So, now probably the smoothest road in #Oxfordshire...
I find drivers mostly fail to bother to give priority to people on bikes coming down the hill in the direction of Steventon... They see you, esp my slow flash headlight, but adopt the 'only a cyclist not going to wait' attitude.
Pleased to see overwhelming opinion IN FAVOUR of the NCN5 cycle and walking improvements to our town centre, including contraflow lane
In Abingdon we don't mess around or sit on the fence

Apparently Squitchey lane = “Lane where squitch [couch] grass grows.” 😁
No gonna lie - don't think I'd stand too close to that particular elephant...
Ride was back via Sandford Lock, South of Oxford. Unfortunately, the Proof Social Bakehouse, on Sandford lane proved a little too popular, for me to want to join the queue... 🙂
'Of course my tank needs to be parked on the cycle path, I mean otherwise it would take up space on the road...' 😑

Cycled through North Oxford, via Godstow/ Wolvercote, en route to Otmoor, including the superb Marston Ferry Rd cycleway. Also Squitchey lane, probably my favourite Oxford street name... 😁 Port meadow looking good in the sun.

I hear you, & probably a significant psychological element to removing mudguards; bike sound, feel, 600g weight saving bonus. Have my 'around town' utility bike, but other bike is a do-it-all often for tarmac & eg Ridgeway chalky goodness, often in same ride. 2025 summer+ was as dry as a bone.
👍A nice spot - around the old bridge.
Interestingly, the UK needs more solar capacity, but also requires more energy storage to keep pace. Apparently solar farms in some areas of the UK, on sunny days, need to paid to flip the Off switch on energy generation, simply to avoid national grid congestion.
I didn't trim enough length of the old hose end, so cut through the barn & left a bit of said barb in the hose. The new olive didn't compress symetrically, enabling a micro-leak of oil, so I had to redo. Rear caliper seems fine now.
Hydraulic brakes have been used for 2yrs, so overdue a service. Although, very good, I had some new RS785 (postmount) calipers on the shelf, so the basic MT200 calipers are coming off. Messed up (see alt) new olive & barb fitting, so repeated - waiting for more to arrive for front caliper.
It's been a good spring for Dead nettle. Loads around here...

New mudflap (TTCycle) installed. I was going on a potentially wet ride with others, so put the MGs back on... fortunately, easy to do.
Despite the good forecast ☀️, expect the unexpected, as the MGs may come off again... 😁

Nice.
Bluebell factoid... 😀 "Over half the world's population of bluebells grow in the UK." www.kew.org/plants/blueb...
I waited nearly 2 minutes to cross there last week. Came through the portal, then was heading south towards the Ridgeway. I have used the centre 'refuge' just up the road further west, when A420 very busy...

So Pt 1 of test complete. The new Pirelli patches seem to properly bond to the TPU inner using the Camplast cement. The RideNow patches just didn't 'cut it'. I think the previous patch detached simply due to the flexing of the tyre at lower pressures. Road test next...

Evening over Blewburton hillfort. There is am upcoming "UK Hillforts" episode if you wish to know more about this site.
Nice capture! I cycled the bridleway on the far (southern) side to Blewbury the other day; slightly more challenging than I was expecting... 😀
Very useful bit of space time engineering, which cuts waiting* time from one side to the other to zero, & at nowhere near the speed of light...
Does get flooded occasionally though... 😉
On the face of it, this TPU inner tube patch kit seems good value for ~£6. The patches are nicely flexible, unlike the relatively stiff RideNow self adhesive patches. 'Camplast' TPU fusing cement is encouraging too. I have a TPU tube waiting for repair, so efficacy test incoming...

😅 Quite the debacle that was...
The mysterious west Oxfordshire portal to a different... side of the A420 nr Fyfield, has signage now. 👍

Gripping stuff I thought. 😀👍 Puncture-fest though, as expected...
Working the whole tyre around into the deeper, centre of the rim, works for me... No tyre levers required to fit them (35mm). 🙂
