1/ Healthcare rant, ahoy!

I recently left my job to care FT for a loved one with a debilitating illness.

I'm navigating between COBRE ($1100/month for current coverage) or ACA ($800-1200 for varying coverage).

Getting bombarded with 'solo owner' marketed non-ACA plans that have a HORRIFIC bias.

10/ That plan covered damn near every emergency with maximum benefits. When my loved one left ADOT in 2016, the COBRE plan cost $635/month & saved his life twice in the next 18 months.

Spouting ableist lies about personal responsibility ignores reality.

Everyone gets disabled at some point!

An English Paper Pieced block of 2 inch hexagons made up of browns, mini flowers of three hex pieces of the original brown and confetti fabric, and a few solid bright hexagons scattered around the block that match the confetti print. This is part of a Block of the Month project where participants hand off a fabric with instructions on what they want done with their fabric. At the end of the year everyone with have 12 twelve and a half inch blocks which they can combine to make a quilt.

Latest fabric swap Block of the Month. The instructions were browns and bright colors. The original fabric has little hexagon confetti on brown and I had browns in my stash.

Need to soak this to get the glue off because I went a little nuts with this EPP block.

They’re a private company! They’re not a government! And they are NOT a smol, helpless bean!

They can 100% decide what doesn’t meet their quality standards. Geocities said No Nazis 30 years ago and it wasn’t a problem because Nazi is not a protected category anywhere on earth!

Hey y'all... in light of today's events, recognize this might go unnoticed. But I worked on this some time, and really want to stress that a depleted FEMA is going to be terrible for Texas. Staffing at FEMA has been chopped, and there's calls calls for even more (including the Denton office).

The NLRB doesn't exist to protect workers. It exists to keep workers from burning down the owners' homes, because that used to be now labor disputes were settled

I'm glad Salwell has resigned. I feel like the guys who are still mad about Franken resigning were getting tired and losing focus. Now they have a new grievance to play with.

(I will not be relitigating Al Franken with you, so if I've struck a nerve, nurse the pain on your own.)

So once again a man started a wildly successful harassment campaign against a female celebrity who didn’t actually do anything and the internet swallowed it full throated, and the whole thing is revealed to be concocted horseshit he can’t muster anything more than “sorry that happened I guess”

Phew managed to make it another day without getting a nazi tattoo. It’s hard out here. Just nazi tattoos roaming the streets attaching themselves to people. Stay woke

Your ballot or other mail may not get postmarked by USPS the day it's dropped off Close to a deadline for mailing your ballot, tax return or legal document? To make sure it gets a postmark on time under the latest USPS changes, you may want to send it early or visit a post office.

PRO TIP if you're filing taxes by mail:

Your tax return may not get postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service the same day it's dropped off.

If you want to make sure your return gets a postmark by the April 15 deadline, go to a post office by Wednesday and ask for one.

Families across the U.S. are getting college acceptance letters — and tuition bills NPR's Ayesha Rascoe speaks with economist Judith Scott-Clayton about the cost of college in the U.S. They discuss the difference between sticker and net price and the opaqueness of tuition costs.

I just listened to an extended NPR interview w an education economist about 40 yrs of rising college tuition & student debt, and not a single mention that 40 yrs ago was about the time all states cut higher education budgets, privatized tuition, in order to pay for tax cuts and prisons

The point of the university as a concept is that it's been here for a thousand years and meant to be here another thousand. Turning education over to producing what the market needed five years ago is never going to work well.

Germany had like, 150 years of being considered the world's best place to do science and math.

Hitler shot that reputation in the face literally the moment he came to power.

Before Hitler, the US had about 6 nobel prizes, Germany like 33.

Now the US has 420, Germany 115.

Germany still has not recovered from that brain drain 92 years ago.
