This is the kind of structural intervention needed to effect real change. The fact that it’s been spun thus is a data point supporting my theory that our sector just wants to be rewarded for doing the bare minimum, whilst nothing *really* changes (and in fact privilege is ever more concentrated)

The Palentir statement on its desired “Technological Republic” is one of the scariest things I have seen in a while. It is a call for a world dominated by an authoritarian U.S., generated by AI (both the statement and the world), run by tech-surveillance companies. Technofascism pure!

Great story. A v good friend was DV'd for the FCO years ago. One question was: "does your wife have expensive tastes?". Answer: "Yes, but she works in banking and earns far more than I do". He passed.

Congrats on “opening” a strait that was open six weeks ago, and all it cost was at least 13 dead service members, thousands of dead Iranian civilians, tens of billions in taxpayer dollars, our loss in global standing, and the Iranian regime’s increase in power. Phenomenal work.

I am absolutely not an expert on classical literature, but weren’t the Sirens essentially this, telling a man exactly what he wanted to hear to lure him to his death?

I know from experience that leaving Substack has a cost. No other platform is as *easy* to get up and running, any time you change platforms, you're going to get significant churn. But, my friends who are on Substack--I don't think it will get easier to leave, might as well do it now.

I don't know how to explain to the people who pop up when creatives complain about "AI" to say there are legit uses for it just how much they sound like someone saying "Well actually fire is used to make bread" when people are talking about an organized arson ring burning down their fucking houses
