This is why you write the captions for the people who need them, which in this case is everybody

I watched this last year with the previous release I bought on a lark long ago, and I was surprised and how much I loved it

It’s “cozy Gundam”, about police officers keeping the peace, not soldiers fighting for survival. As a Gundam fan, Patlabor was perfect for unwinding. This OVA is a great intro

@gailsimone.bsky.social does Marvel still care about letters and fan mail? Years back I thought I remember someone saying it was a way to support books beyond just buying them.

My favorite books (yours excluded) keep getting prematurely canceled and I wonder if sending in a letter would help

Don’t worry. That was just wishful thinking on my part. It is a complete story.

The whole thing plays out like a season of Star Trek (complete with episode titles).

There’s no cliffhanger in the season finale though. No promise or implication that the story would go on. (But it could have)

100% especially with the dual protagonists. Besides making decisions together, you could each take control of one of the leads and take charge of half the narrative (such a shame that wasn’t an officially supported mode).

And it calls back to a forgettable TNG episode and makes it so much better

It is absolutely worth it if you’re a fan. Tons of fan-service and the dual protagonists is executed really well for pacing imo

Not perfect, but a promising first entry in what will sadly never be a series

Man issue 2 just came out today and there already seems to be a targeted backlash campaign against my new favorite X-Men book… again.

I love X-Men United and I’m not afraid to say it. There’s a ton of promise in what Dr. Ewing is setting up here. I’m baffled so many could be so quick to dismiss it

I think I've come up with the simplest, easiest way to express my opinions on the new Mario movie:

In terms of narrative competence/cohesion, I think it's basically operating on the same level as Star Wars 9 Rise of Skywalker.

Make of that statement what you will

Why is it so easy to walk up stairs two at a time but so scary to walk down stairs two at a time?

Cover of issue 105 from Archie Sonic comic. Features a blonde girl protecting the bruised and beaten form of Sonic. Did not happen in the book iirc.

Archie Sonic the Hedgehog. I still get weirdly nostalgic every time I see my first cover, and I still pick up the new comics today

The fire spell is underrated. It’s super cheap and way better than full heal sword beams. I always regret not using it more

1 week ago 0 0 0 0

Ok, that I can understand

Having magic costs slightly less, or taking slightly less damage, or killing things in slightly fewer stabs is almost invisible progress. It’s more rewarding to learn enemy patterns and “get good”

But man is felt incredible to finally be able to cast the heal spell twice

Oof. Disagree. Experience points and random battles imo are what help set it apart. Grinding for levels encourage engagement with the gameplay loop

I think like it needs better checkpoints after game over, and rethink some of the rougher difficulty spikes(like Death Mountain) and platforming

How do you like it so far?

It plays so differently from other Zeldas people are put off by their first impressions. But the gameplay loop is legit fun for me

I think it’s genuinely very playable today. With some balance tweaks and QoL changes, it could get more appreciation with a remake

Pretty much. I mean sometimes the print is extra tiny, but it’s really weird how many people have just become helpless or careless about stuff like this.

I honestly blame COVID and lockdowns. Long COVID fucked our brains and lockdowns made us forget how to act in public

A trilogy from my comic book retail work:

“Guy who wanders into a store 3 minutes to closing to browse for 20 minutes and doesn’t buy anything”

“‘How much is this?’ Guy who can’t read the price printed on the upc”

“Lady wanders into a store after closing because I didn’t kick the first guy out”

I’m gonna guess this was about tracking down a Wii? That particular holiday rush was still sticks out

I don’t look down on those that feel differently, but I admit I’m always going to wince at least a little bit on the inside when someone refers to listening to audio books as “reading”.

Reading is a skill I was taught in school. It requires things that simply listening to an audiobook doesn’t

One of the best NIN sets I’ve ever seen.

My only gripe is it could have used more Mariqueen but holy god the DANCERS.

The fuckin’ dancers dude.

One of the best Superman stories. Should be considered essential reading for the character

It also comes with a fascinating history behind it, inspired by the work of a real life Klan infiltrator

To be fair, I guess this used to be common knowledge? Like a lot of classic and famous movie villains were explicitly based off of Trump apparently.

It really undermines faith in older generations when they elected irl Biff as president. Twice.

I went in with lowered expectations from reviews and spoilers and it still disappointed.

This new movie just doesn’t skate by for me on Easter eggs and fan-service alone the way the first did

It did get me interested in Star Fox again though

Trump's derranged Truth Social post where he says

A whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don't want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalised minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!

All the new Mario movie discourse makes me wonder what @ianflynnbkc.bsky.social would have done with the characters and story
