good thing we do not have any ocean based military activities in motion right now

Ossoff: "How does American politics really work? It's coin operated. Money goes in, favors come out. It's been running on secret money, corporate money, billionaire money ... all of this gave rise to a depraved president who exploits this rot to empower and enrich himself"
Americans in specific & humans in general are terrible at determine who & what is & is not inauthentic. This is why influence campaigns work. Platner’s entire campaign is an influence campaign that he’s a rough & tumble self made oysterman rather than the son of wealthy parents who bankrolled him.
"there is only one majority in this country and that is the working class."
Just a filthy civic degenerate

Exactly one year ago today:
I’m especially proud of our work at @lawfaremedia.org because we’ve produced what is likely the most detailed contemporaneous reporting on J6 legal cases.
Even as I watch history be rewritten in real time, I still hope it will serve future historians seeking truth.

Again: for any big liberal donor who wants to funnel millions into fixing this country's politics, the ROI on buying any struggling paper and simply tasking it with doing real reporting on local news is vastly higher than the same $$ given to some group that does mass ad buys every election year.
I think that lack of competition is one of the most important mini-beats we cover at @boltsmag.org. Here’s @taniel.bsky.social on Oregon, where 15 DA seats are up this year, and every one of them drew just a single candidate: boltsmag.org/oregon-uncon...
Magyar now polling third in the Iowa caucus.
Hungarians deserve every congratulations for giving Peter Magyar a bigger margin than Orban has ever gotten in all of his rigged elections - and this within the system that Orban rigged. Magyar now has a constitutional majority to undo Orban's constitutional prison and govern as a democratic leader.
In competitive authoritarianism, leaders abuse state power to tilt the electoral playing field in their favor, manipulate the media environment and minimize opposition voices, maybe even steal close elections by lying about fraud. But they usually can't overcome a large majority voting against them.
The amazing, letter-perfect performance of NASA this week is a ferocious rebuke to the right-wing fools who constantly tell us that for-profit businesses always do a job better than the government.
If there is a state with greater scenic beauty than Oregon, I haven’t seen it. Mountains, high desert, Pacific, Hood, Columbia, Portland — it’s just spectacular. I don’t want to spoil anything for residents, but it’s a truly underrated state. I’m lucky to have married into it.
Every single one of the astronauts who went to the moon and back on Artemis II was educated at a public school.
Thinking of the teachers who poured into Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen tonight. You helped send a kid to the moon!

The freaky thing about the world's worst analogy here is: he's comparing Iran to his wife, but Iran has demonstrated it is not defeated and does not obey the Trump Admin.; Vance seems unable to comprehend this. May his wife get some ideas, and may he realize he's skydiving w/out parachute.
"Hope has two beautiful daughters; their names are Anger and Courage. Anger at the way things are, and Courage to see that they do not remain as they are."
One of my favourite quotes, attributed to St Augustine and embodied by @drkatemarine.bsky.social today.
This is good from Senator Elissa Slotkin. Same message as Murphy below:
President Trump threatened to obliterate every power station and bridge in a country of 90 million people on Tuesday night in prime time and basically no one is bothering to even ask him how that is not a “war” that would require authorization from Congress under Article I of the Constitution.
this is true beyond journalism. the federalist society is exceptionally well-funded while the closest thing to a liberal counterpart has to engage in endless penny pinching
Our home planet, the only place in the galaxy that doesn’t suck
The last time human eyes were far enough from Earth to see the whole globe was December 1972.

This is amazing. If only democrats would try to explain this to the electorate. It’s a winning message all the way around.
every so often, I rewatch this amazing 2-minute clip of Jane Fonda being interviewed about gay rights in 1979.
her warmth, tone, and words are extraordinarily inspiring. “I hope they use me. What am I here for if not to be used by good people for good things?”

Holy New York.
this is truly excellent and important work
I'm going on Krugman's substack in a few to talk energy, so I've been trying to wrap my head around a 30K view of the domestic energy landscape. It has brought to mind one of my favorite rants, which I will rant at you once again here.
Let's talk about a contrast. 🧵
Rep. Rosa DeLauro, top House Dem appropriator, says DHS is actively choosing not to pay TSA workers while paying employees at ICE, CPB, Coast Guard and Secret Service.
And that the TSA administrator confirmed this herself on Weds. www.huffpost.com/entry/latest...
Two Dems need to drop out.
