The Chicago Bulls just can't seem to get out of their own way.
A lot of what Michael Reinsdorf said on Tuesday was fine, but his remarks on Billy Donovan still raise some red flags. As coveted as the job may be, you can't immediately handcuff your new leader.

The Bulls are now 4-8 against teams that have fewer than 20 wins this season.
vs. Pacers: 0-3
vs. Nets: 1-3
vs. Jazz: 1-1
vs. Kings: 1-1
vs. Wizards: 1-0
With that win, the Bulls are now only 1.0 game behind the Bucks. In other words, 1.0 game from moving into 11th place and shrinking their lottery odds.
They have the worst team in the NBA – the Sacramento Kings – next on the schedule.
I think the Chicago Bulls could try to keep around more guys than some think. Whether or not those players would want to hang around, however, is the real question.

Tank Update: Bulls commit 11 TOVs in the 1st quarter alone
"You're going from continuity, everyone knows each other to basically you got a new team coming in."
Josh Giddey sure sounds like he knows the next few weeks aren't going to be easy for the Chicago Bulls 👇
Big opportunity coming over these last 27 games for Matas Buzelis.
The runway is clear for him to take on an even bigger offensive workload and step into a leadership position.
Good test.
There is no ignoring it. Josh Giddey talked the massive roster changes after practicing with new group …
“As I keep saying, it’s different. I’ve never had a change like this mid-season. It’s going to take time to adapt … all guys are bought in. Great guys. Great people.”
If the Chicago Bulls are hoping to turn things around fast, the East will not be their friend.
Several teams that have swam at the bottom of the East are ready to move upstream — even the freakin Wizards!
Silver lining for the Bulls in sixth-straight loss: Rob Dillingham played a career-high 30 mins ...
16 PTS
6-12 FG
4-5 FT
7 AST
3 STL
Had some really crafty drives to the rim and was very hard to stay in front of. There is something there.
Dillingham (and Ivey) should be playing like 25-30 MPG at minimum the rest of the way...my guess is that will not be the case once Giddey/Smith are back. Will he actually play at all/more than just spot minutes?
Rob Dillingham was brutally honest in his first meeting with the media: He needs a confidence boost.
The Bulls can – and must – offer him exactly that over the rest of the season.
More on Dillingham starting his next chapter 👇
It's hard not to look at the current roster and laugh ... I have to imagine the front office knows that
Still plenty of hours left before the deadline.
I’ve seen a few both in and out of my mentions suggest that these are all boring moves that more so shuffle deck chairs.
To be clear, it’s not a ton, but there are clearly some already trying to look for the flaws. Two things can be true: These are good moves, and the Bulls can still screw up.
Especially when we consider the Bulls’ financial flexibility pretty much remains the same in both situation, this is very clearly good work.
Could they still screw it all up? Absolutely! More moves have to be made. But, in a vacuum, this is an impressive start.
Would you rather finish the year with Vucevic/Huerter or Ivey, maybe Simons, and a high second?
The answer is obvious. You get to evaluate two potential future pieces and have a chance to draft another.
This is good work. We don’t have to walk it back bc it’s the Bulls.
The Bulls signaled a willingness to add draft capital on Saturday, which means they should be very happy about the Trail Blazers' latest move.
Bulls are still owners of lotto-protected pick, and the Blazers look ready to buy and push for the playoffs.
No Coby
No Giddey
No Vucevic
No Smith
No Jones
No Collins
And the Bulls finally beat the Heat bc of course ...
Ayo Dosunmu also scored or assisted on 15 of the Bulls' last 19 points.
Yuki Kawamura in the 4th quarter ...
- Nailed 3
- Assisted a Matas dunk
- 2 steals
- Forced offensive foul
- Won jump ball (yes, you read that right)
That was an electric stretch. Legitimately helped Chicago keep the lead.
Jalen Smith has 11 PTS in the first half to lead the Bulls. He now has 10 straight games in double figures, which extends his career-long streak.
Can't say enough good things about him this season. He has genuinely been one of the best role-playing bigs in the league.
