💣 It is not true that Rousseau confined elite accountability to elections!

Scrutiny and Recall: Rousseau on Controlling the Executive | American Political Science Review | Cambridge Core Scrutiny and Recall: Rousseau on Controlling the Executive

Liberalism reinvents itself Published in Intellectual History Review (Ahead of Print, 2024)

Petite satisfaction à utiliser bluesky ici, car je peux directement vous renvoyer à l'excellente review de @arthurghins.bsky.social (qui pointe très bien tous les soucis méthodologique du livre) sans que la visibilité du thread soit affectée !

The End of Enlightenment by Richard Whatmore review – a warning from 18th-century Britain In a study with chilling modern resonance, the history don contends that the age of reason was betrayed by the greed, corruption and barbarism of Britain’s ruling elite

This is the book that has come out of a terrific set of Carlyle Lectures in 2019, and it sounds as if Richard Whatmore has not been pulling his punches.

CfP. Concepta Online Seminar: On the Joint Practice of Conceptual History and the Study of Political Thought, 8-9 Jan 2024

This seminar will explore the various linkages imaginable between conceptual history and political thought. It will delve around conditions, means, and ends of the joint practice of conceptual history focused on political thought, and the study of political thought informed by conceptual history. Their association remains a sign of methodological renewal and inspiration that challenges both scholarly practices and their correspondence in academic curricula. The seminar will inquire into the pros and cons of those interdisciplinary options, paying especial attention to their outcomes or consequences.

We welcome paper proposals dealing with any of the issues mentioned above. Kindly send your paper proposal (abstract of up to 150 words, with contact details) to the emails of both conveners: José María Rosales (jmrosales@uma.es) & Rosario López (rosariols@uma.es)
