I think everyone forgets there's serious poverty in rural England. Wages are abysmal & employment is difficult. To add to this, infrastructure is poor too - Devon & Cornwall's NHS is very poorly resourced, as is the transport etc. But it's not an election winner so it all gets ignored.

We know all this. The point is current petrol prices not a lobby for employment contracts. What do you suggest these drivers do until utopia arrives? Meditate?

No it's not. Most people live where they landed. I live rurally because I couldn't afford to move after leaving London to care for my dying mum. Most people can't afford to move. They're on low wages living from day-to-day not living middle-class lifestyle fantasies.

That's a City take. If you live rurally you have no choice. Even the rural unemployed have to run a car. There's no public transport.

But different EU countries handle marginal pricing differently: as % of price in the mix; subsidies; etc. It's not right to imply they're all the same. The UK has one of the highest % of merit order pricing. There's a lot that could be changed.
