New Blog Redesign Well, it was time for another blog redesign. I'd been wanting to do something with this for a while, because I had still been coasting on the Tailwind Next.js...

New Blog Redesign

Some people get their kicks climbing mountains or jumping out of planes... I get mine by posting funny things in slack during meetings and trying to not laugh while my webcam is on.

GitHub Status Welcome to GitHub's home for real-time and historical data on system performance.

It’s not a good sign when my browser autocompletes www.githubstatus.com so fast.

Just added the GitHub Unicorn as a new Slack emoji... because that's all I've seen today.

Awesome, glad it is working well! I guess I should go ahead and publish it up as a community plugin. (and also, most of the work goes to the Book Search plugin because it is mostly based on that work)

I'm so tempted to say, "Perfect! Now I have a comprehensive understanding." in my next call. Hmm...

We got bit by the "System Data" bug on my wife's iPhone this past week... 30-40gb of storage that we can't do anything about. Setting the date a year in the future removed 10gb, but a day later, it is almost all back. She couldn't take a photo and her calendar wouldn't show any events.

2025 Year in Review Well, 2025 is a wrap and we're in 2026. As I've tried to do over the last few years, I want to reflect on how the year went and on some of the things I've learned and the highlights.

I posted my 2025 year in review up at mohundro.com/blog/2026-01....

Not sure I've said this, but I prefer to pronounce "URL" as "you hurl"... at least when I'm in a silly mood.

At least three levels of downdetectorsdowndetectorsdowndetectorsdowndetector.com

Does this mean we should start self-hosting our down detectors? But then we need a peer to peer distributed version of down detection to tell us when OUR down detector is down. Right? RIGHT?

From the @changelog.com's latest email, it mentions "garbage collection"... we've for years had a "#code-gore" channel that we do the same thing in. These things are great.

My open source story was one of many featured on the OSI site for Maintainer Month - see my OSS story at opensource.org/maintainers/... and see more at opensource.org/maintainers.

I just had the kindest (and unprompted!) LinkedIn recommendation written for me ever... it absolutely made my day.

I just finished South of Midnight and loved it. The music was incredible - I’ve never experienced a game that integrated music like that!

We're thrilled to use overly enthusiastic language to share this new mostly uninspiring news to try to get you more excited than we actually are. Oh, I forgot the exclamation point!

I’m still a huge fan of git but there have been a few posts on Hacker News that have been highly positive towards jj so I’m curious. Also, it is entirely backwards compatible with git and you can use jj against a git repo so your team doesn’t have to migrate to anything new.

I'm just trying to see if I can understand the recent hype for jj and use it for something real.

A simple example is the gitconfig in my dotfiles... I have local changes that are OS-specific (Mac or Windows usually) that shouldn't get pushed. Granted, I could probably use some sort of includeIf directive, but it feels complicated. Maybe I'm just too used to git, though.

I spent a bit of time reading up on jujutsu and, maybe I'm weird, but I like git's staging area. I frequently have local-only changes (not gitignored though) for local config changes or similar. And I have no idea how I would do that in jj.

Rolling credits on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle - incredible. I think I’ve been grinning the whole time.

It is very annoying to try to wipe and reinstall an OS on really old Mac hardware... I have a 2009 iMac that I'm donating and I don't have the installation media. And I wiped it before creating installation media. And all the steps assume Intel chipsets.

My Dygma Raise 2 keyboard came in today and I'm loving it... I had a few issues with the initial firmware update, but it is smooth sailing now. The Bazecor app is super impressive, too. This is going to be fun. I'll post a follow up blog later.
