"house republicans" guys it was literally only 6 of them, no need to get excited.
The top ranked on trade include 7 Senate Ds (Cantwell, Coons, Hickenlooper, Kaine, Murray, Shaheen, Wyden) and one R, Rand Paul. Glad to see Maryland's @vanhollen.senate.gov and @alsobrooks.senate.gov get decent "Ally" ratings.
We'll tweet a bit more about the scorecard in the coming days, including highlighting the top-scoring Senators, and talking a bit about why we chose to track the metrics we did. In the meantime, we encourage you to call the top-performing Senators and thank them for their leadership.
In comparison, it's clear that the rest of the GOP has fallen far from its past support for free trade. A stunning 33 Republican Senators received A+, A, or B grades for their āPre-Trump Trade Recordā, but received overall F grades on the index due to their embrace of Trumpās protectionist agenda.
A few other key findings from our research:
Both Senators Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell stood out as two of the only Republicans willing to forcefully stand against Trump's tariffs. While we disagree with them on many issues, they deserve tremendous credit for their courage here.
We've identified eight "Free Trade Titans" who earned top marks for their advocacy against Trump's tariffs: @cantwell.senate.gov, @coons.senate.gov, @hickenlooper.senate.gov, @kaine.senate.gov, @murray.senate.gov, Sen. Rand Paul, @shaheen.senate.gov & @wyden123.bsky.social.
Unfortunately, not enough Senators in Congress are willing to say this, which is why we've created this new index evaluating all 100 Senators on their response to Trump's tariffs.
We've said it time and time again, and we're going to continue saying it: Tariffs are a Tax on American families. They devastate small businesses across the country, and they alienate our allies. And they fail at their stated purpose of bringing back manufacturing.
With Trump continuing to escalate his global trade wars over the weekend by announcing new tariffs on European countries over Denmark's refusal to sell Greenland, there's no better time for us to release our new Senate Tariff & Trade Response Index. š§µ

Obviously, we want more immigrants, itās one of our founding principals, but we also donāt want things to happen that will set support for more immigration back in the long term
All that said, Twitter only allows editing in the 1st hour, so not easily done.
My reading of āthankfullyā, both from knowing the chapter lead and my general view on this is that they are thankful the US isnāt in the situation described, as they are worried it would lead to mass backlash and prohibit future immigration.
What the fuck are you talking about. Dems just won elections in Virginia, New Jersey, and arguably even NYC (where we didnāt like Mamdani ā or Cuomo to be clear) by basically following popularism.
It is bad to leave incorrect views totally unchallenged.
⦠programs that will lead to mass public acceptance of more immigration in the long term! Again, Iām on vacation right now, but if you remind me next Tuesday, Iāll send you a good piece that breaks this down
Again, this is just bluesky folks misreading. The average American believes that itās better for folks to come through the normal legal system rather than asylum process, because they view the asylum process as broken and chaotic! Folks who want more immigrants should want to support the popularā¦
I mean sure yeah. But when you have the tech-adjacent racist weirdos like Wayne arguing about the metrics, it is good to have someone pointing out that they are wrong about the metrics! Maybe the chapter didnāt do it perfectly, but itās always good to have someone pushing back from a different angle
Iām going to go back to enjoying drinks while on my vacation now. If you are still mad about this in a week, you can tag me against next Tuesday
Man Iām on vacation right now and dont want to deal with this, but taking a single tweet out of context is dumb. If you actually followed the bay area account, youād know they spend half their time arguing against the tech-bro right wing nuts. Anyways hereās some more from the thread
