Well done @helenmaguiremp.bsky.social for raising the need to boost access to EV charging in the Commons. There are ways to cut red tape for councils, reduce costs for motorists and take an essential step to help reduce emissions. It's a win-win-win! hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2025...

From Mighty White to multigrain - the UK's EV market is more diverse & less reliant on Tesla than ever before. Next month we expect either VW or BMW to knock Tesla off its perch as the UK's best selling EV brand.

There has been a lot of discussion of the UK's ZEV mandate and trade in cars following US President Trump's proclamation on automotive tariffs.
Our latest briefing explores what - if anything - the ZEV mandate has to do with US exports of BEVs to the UK.

Net zero is like an invest-to-save scheme. E.g. @thecccuk.bsky.social est. that electrifying transport could incur £5bn/year savings by 2029 - money in the pockets of millions of motorists.
UK EV registrations just had their best ever start to the year! Up by 34% on January 2024, and just a few percentage points under where they need to be for ZEV mandate compliance already. Find out more and get the full market report at newautomotive.org/ecc
EVs were the most popular fuel type in the UK for the first time in December, marking the end to a year in which sales of clean cars returned to very strong growth.

🚗💡 Department for Transport confirms: the ZEV mandate flexibilities mean targets will be met. Good to see this analysis from ECIU which confirms many of our findings on the UK's ZEV mandate. 🌍⚡ #EV #ZEVmandate #ClimateAction www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/depa...
This from @nytimes.com on the plight of global automakers is a really great roundup. Reversing or weakening EV targets and regulations will only add to the problems they face. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/15/b...

Really good blog by @bennelmes.bsky.social - worth a read on the current situation around the ZEV mandate.
This bit is particularly important that often gets missed by the media: some carmakers have just made some very bad decisions.

Despite recent headlines, today's data from @newautomotive.org shows that electric vehicle targets are working, with one in four new cars sold in November being fully electric.
@bennelmes.bsky.social discusses the recent developments and future of the targets:

Sad news from Ford about job losses this week - I was on the BBC News at Six on Wednesday discussing the reasons for the challenges facing the European automotive industry. youtu.be/OKkSj0HJPhQ
Hi Graeme, the mandate was subject to two rounds of consultation and manufacturers certainly engaged. Some actually urged the government to set more ambitious targets than we now have in place. This was the last round of consultation www.gov.uk/government/c...
We spent some time on Electoral Dysfunction taking about the life and legacy if John Prescott. Harriet says he *was* the red wall. Ruth called him the ‘yin to Blair’s yang’. Together they delivered three Labour election wins. Full episode out Fri 6am. Will post link here
My two memories of John Prescott: I once sat in on a meeting between him and Bryony Worthington discussing climate change in the Lords. Later, in the 2017 GE campaign in W Yorks, on the stump for Labour. Few people could be so at home in both places. RIP. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
Tesla's loss of the EV tax credit will be partially offset by higher realized prices of CA ZEV credits.
That is, unless Congress and the Trump administration also target California's EPA waiver for Advanced Clean Fleets, which underpins its EV mandate.
NEW: Big scoop w/ @pickardje.bsky.social and Kana Inagaki!
Nissan is to warn ministers that the UK car industry has reached a “crisis point”, with UK jobs and competitiveness at risk unless the government relaxes the zero emission vehicles mandate.

Ooft, UK petrol car sales fell 28% year-on-year in October 2024, with year-to-date sales down by more than 100,000
Meanwhile, strong EV sales mean the ZEV mandate "has been met", says New Automotive, which is odd bc I'm sure I've seen lots of scare stories saying it'd never happen
