39: Killzone Liberation

it is still just as brown and gray and drab and narratively uninteresting as the first game but moment-to-moment it blows killzone 1 out of the water by being actually fun to play

you could argue that it was more "after unleashed" rather than "with colors" and write off the random bits like black knight as holdovers from the previous era

I would argue that there was more of a transitional period between 06 and colors where the "cool" bits that ended up making the games rougher were phased out in favor of trying to be more generally palatable.

where one era ends and the other begins is a bit of a tossup, if you mark it right after 06 then you have to ignore titles like secret rings, rush adventure, and chronicles

modern era sonic and adventure-era sonic aren't really that far apart when it comes to quality, the difference is in how willing they are to attempt to be cool

I used to do the same contrarian bullshit with SA2 that I did with ocarina of time but after a replay I just can't bring myself to dislike it. fuuuuuuck it's so cool
