I've asked around and it's clear the best way to close out Prime Days is by stopping by your local bookstore and getting a recommendation from a bookseller who (most likely) doesn't provide tech to ICE or bully municipal governments into giving them tax breaks.

Queer country: LGBTQ+ musicians are outside the spotlight as Grand Ole Opry turns 100 LGBTQ+ musicians have always played a part in country music, but even today they are being kept just outside the spotlight.

I've long listened to & written poems about country music so I appreciate @theconversation.com having me write about the Opry100 celebration & the history of queer country music

2025 Paterson Poetry Prize – Finalist

On the left is the book cover, featuring a realistic illustration of a pig and the title Born Backwards by Tanya Olson in elegant serif font. At the bottom, a funky orange URL reads: www.tanyaolson.com

I'm happy to see Born Backwards get some love this award season. Writing poems is the fun/scary/invigorating part but it is always nice to see someone is out there reading and appreciating the work. #poetry

I loved being part of WOW8 on Wisconsin Ave in Bethesda. Visual artist Pam Gregory designed an installation including my poem Don't Come Home (on the tornado). It's beautiful and I love it. #booksky #poetry

Glad to say Born Backwards is one of 10 Foreword Indies Finalists in LGBTQ+ works. Foreword does great work reviewing small press books and I'm thrilled for BB to be recognized for its queer subject matter. #BookSky #Poetry

Sticker at our Metro opening. Watching a Russian asset dismantle democracy and destroy America for oligarchs is terrible. The only positive aspect might be the return of a strong sticker and graffiti resistance game. Let's go artists! #FuckLeonandtheIncels

DOGE's savings page fixed old mistakes — and added new ones An NPR review of new data added to DOGE's "wall of receipts" finds the group quietly changed previous errors, added new ones and still has little verified savings to show for its work.

Enjoyed Mrs Robinson last night including a Q&A w/Mary Robinson herself. I wore my campaign pin I've had since 1990. Not much of a keeper of things, but the pin reminds me what good leadership looks like and that good leaders exist #CapitalIrishFilmFestival #SolasNua

DC is a town under attack from the current oligarchy- workers and residents have lies told about them everyday. Poetry tells both actual and potential truths. I plan to meet this obligation

Illustrated poster for National Poetry Month April 2025. A whimsical scene features a diverse group of humans and mythical creatures gathered around a table, sharing tea and music. A large green ogre plays a stringed instrument, while a mouse-like creature listens. A fairy dances, and a child plays the flute. The text at the top reads: 'THIS IS THE WORLD I WANT TO LIVE IN. The Shared World.' Logos from sponsors and organizations supporting poetry are displayed at the bottom.

Older and wiser: A poet found solace in writing and now hopes to share joy Jaki Shelton Green, North Carolina’s first African American poet laureate, discusses life, loss, joy and sometimes being mistaken for the hired help.

While she should really be getting interviewed and reviewed on the Books section of the WaPo, here is a nice interview with Jaki Shelton Green. Like many NC poets, I learned a ton about writing and existing just by reading and watching her. #poetry

As unis get more admins (and fewer teachers) it is obvious most admins failed up b/c there were awful in the classroom.
Good teachers meet students where they are and make space for them to learn and change when they are ready.
Good admins make trains run on time no matter the cost to people
