Science-folks: If we run 100 experiments, we might find 1 or 2 of them may have results that can make many dollars.

NZ Govt: Excellent. We will fund those 1 or 2 experiments.

one of the best use cases of AI for coding is cleaning up one-off scripts for integration into re-usable modules. i LOVE that moment and the efficienty with what AI can help me there, so satisfying. instead of the dreaded task of identifying code repetition yourself... ugh..

apparently the design really wants small text or pdf files only. removing the 30 MB from data and photo-rich html files resolved the issue...

wow, @anthropic.com projecs are really useless are they? I got 4 pdfs and 2 15 MB html files in this project and that's too much? plus, files created in one chat are not even automatically known by other chats in the same project, and i would have to manually download and then upload them so that

I did that once with a coding problem. Searched the web and found my answer to the same question from several years ago. ;)

Random PSA. Not only is OPill (the over the counter birth control) over the counter, but in many places with limited reproductive healthcare access, there are organizations providing it for free. It isn't comprehensive, but it is worth looking. I'm happy to look if you have a region of interest.

Note that I’m aware of the ASP mapproject tool but that, to my knowledge, requires a full ISIS install. I think I was able to isolate that. (Still adding isolated test envs). (However, csm2map projects an L1 cube so folks of course have ISIS installed anyway.) but I’m faster! (Maybe). ;)

I think I came up with an ISIS baggage free version of cam2map that still is working ISIS compatible using the community sensor model. I call it csm2map and it’s up to factor 20 faster than cam2map. Try it out: pip install isistools (subpackage of that) and stay tuned for a concept paper.

even after 20 years of working remotely via ssh, it doesn't stop to amaze me. Sitting in a cafe, working on 2 remote servers at the same time doing work for me...

same with lists of input files for ISIS tools. they constantly need to be edited, something needs to be taken out or added for various reasons... ImageListHandler class it is... ;)

took me a while, as every other pipeline just treats it as a side-task, but creating precise and interoperable geospatial footprints isn't that small of a task, when one includes verification, uncertainties and other finetuning. Ok, FootPrinter class it is... ;) #geospatial #coregistration

I am happy that I got to spend time with Candy Hansen on Clipper and get to know her at least a little bit. News of her passing hit like a truck. RIP to a kind, brilliant, generous soul.

I worked with Candy Hansen on the Cassini UVIS team and the MRO HiRISE team. She was smart and kind and relentless in pursuing understanding of the solar system, and so welcoming to new team members. She made Sagan's "Pale Blue Dot" photo actually happen. Ad astra, Candy. Thank you for everything.

In Candy Hansen's passing we lost a giant in planetary science. She was one of those driving forces, always open to every one, pushing everything in the right direction. I dedicate my recent work push for the planetarypy package to her memory. She'd be happy that one now can do this:

women were kept out of meetings and career opportunities at Pixar because John Lasseter was so much of a sex pest that people decided it was easier to simply not have them in the room with him

how many talented women didn’t get a fair chance because one guy couldn’t behave himself?

"How do you sustain interest built up by something like the Artemis II stuff?"

If you figure this out, do let us deep sea folks know, bc honestly we have THE MOST live & interactive science available rn and STILL very little of the public cares at all. If cool ocean shit can't win ppl, idk what can
