I worked for a company that used AI to augment radiologists to reduce errors, so I like to think I have a balanced view on things.

THIS IS SUCH A HORRIBLE HORRIBLE IDEA!!!! This is the kind of thing that is going to kill someone. No one with any ethics or morals can possibly be involved in this.

I have been to datacenters in Santa Clara, Oakland, Chicago, and other places. From the outside you can't hear them at all because regulations don't allow it, so they engineer around it.

These assholes are building the cheapest possible shit they can in the places where there are no regulations.

When people say the Swalwell allegations are a distraction from Trump/Epstein (they are all part of the same bigger picture), I have to wonder why these people even supposedly care about Trump and Epstein. Do you care about sexual violence or don’t you? Why do you only care about some of it?

> charged by federal authorities with arson of a building used in interstate and foreign commerce.

> Essayli said the charge carries a five year mandatory minimum federal prison sentence and is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

The feds are charging, then the state, then the civil lawsuit.

A powerful man sexually pursuing a young woman who works for him is oppressive. It immediately limits and reshapes her future to her detriment, whether she is physically forced into it or not. It’s coercion either way, and that is why it’s so wrong. It’s an abuse of power.

The vast, vast majority of people have no idea what an abliterated model is. I had to explain it to a bunch of lawyers just the other day.

I've been using Sonnet to run security scans successfully for awhile now. The Mythos stuff really looks like incremental improvement, and frankly the whole "too dangerous to release" seems like better marketing than "it's too big for us to release at scale".

I was pretty solidly in the "I'm not online enough anymore to know who Hasan Piker is" camp but I have to say these bulwark folks are on their way to making me a complete fanboy

Whenever I look at the OpenAI switch from nonprofit to whatever it is now and think about Elon's lawsuit this image comes to mind

He was my representative for years when I lived in Hayward. I honestly despise the man. From my perspective he's basically a mini-Newsom.

Every single person in leadership at @github.com , including those at Microsoft who have taken it over, should be fired and blacklisted from the industry over how much they've managed to destroy that platform. I know they have great engineers, but their leadership is dead set killing the platform.

Beyond the Vibes: A Rigorous Guide to AI Coding Assistants and Agents AI Coding Assistants and Agents are changing the way software is created, but developers have been expected to learn how to use them without any guidance. As managers push developers into adopting these tools how are they expected to avoid the dangers and pitfalls of vibe coding? In this post I take a high level look at the tools and practices developers can use to move quickly with AI without wanting to set their code bases on fire.

Over the last two months I've been working on a guide to using AI Coding Assistants while avoiding the pitfalls of vibe coding. It is my hope that this guide will bridge the existing training and knowledge gap, making it so developers don't have to figure this out from first principals themselves.

Spotlighting The World Factbook as We Bid a Fond Farewell Somewhat devastating news today from the CIA: One of CIA’s oldest and most recognizable intelligence publications, The World Factbook, has sunset. There's not even a hint as to why they …

The CIA just stopped publishing their World Factbook and took every page, including the archived copies of previous versions!

This sucks. It was public domain, so I recovered the 2020 edition (the last one published as a zip file) and shared it to GitHub simonwillison.net/2026/Feb/5/t...

3rd Amendment is also gone. Trump and his crownies went after a hotel chain for not quartering federal troops.

I can't even tell you how many times I've tried calling them, and they never bother to even pick up. Half the time Durbin's mailbox is full so you can't even leave a message. They both need to be replaced with someone who gives a fuck.

Durbin and Duckworth stopped answering calls and taking messages years ago as far as I can tell.

ICE has now carried out two summary executions of innocent people in the streets of an American city.

If you work for ICE, there's no denying that's the mission you're supporting now. You don't get to claim in one year or ten or twenty that you didn't know what ICE was doing. You're complicit.

I watched the video. It was a street execution. No one was at any risk at all and they just executed someone in the street.

I release my stuff under permissive licenses (MIT), so if people can't do the absolute minimum and leave the license attached I'll absolutely DMCA their repo if they don't agree to fix it in a timeline manner

A 24 hour graph labeled "Back Yard > Air Gradient > Temperature". The graph shows temperatures between 45 and 55 up until a little before 8am, at which point it plummets down to 27 degrees so rapidly the line looks almost straight down until it tapers off.

When I woke up this morning it was 45 degrees outside. A few hours later and it's 27 degrees with over an inch of snow
