A diy scene can get together and turn into nazis, or (more likely) boiler plate misogynists, but sometimes a scene can get together and learn how to keep nazis and misogynists out. The point is creating an offline space where you can be kind of libidinal, while also having to deal with other people.

All scenes can produce something nasty. But the DIY venue requires some amount of working with other people, creativity, and is an outlet for all sorts of flows that are otherwise being channeled into algorithms that are constantly churning out reactionary slop.

Of course, and I don't think anyone is suggesting otherwise.
