Your regular reminder that cops don't actually justify their existence or enormous budgets by solving much crime.

Approximately 11% of all serious crimes result in an arrest, and about 2% end in a conviction.

And then there's this...

COVID vaccines tied to less hospital care, long COVID, and economic burden

The study certainly appears to add to evidence that ‘COVID vaccination can play a role in reducing disease burden and associated costs, and it highlights the value of increasing vaccination.’

Part of the problem in the USA is that it needs to be a diagnoses in order to get medical care. This is a result of our fucked up healthcare system but this kind of pathologization is a problem everywhere.

If someone thinks they might be trans, I think our duty is to welcome them with open arms and help them in their journeys no matter where it leads.

Judging people who think they might be trans and subjecting their motives to intense scrutiny HARMS TRANS PEOPLE. It’s really that simple.

Dear NBA,

I KNOW it is all about the money and you don’t care about our convenience, but this having to use 3 different streaming services to watch playoff games each night is, (and I say this with all the love I can for the game,) complete horseshit.

According to reports, Corey Lewandowski took kickbacks to secure DHS contracts for paying contractors.

Fired Secretary Kristi Noem handed $220M in taxpayer funds to her allies for self-promotion. This is blatant corruption.

These partners in crime need to be fully investigated.

But Trump has admitted to and bragged about bribery on multiple occasions, therefore evenI by the Supreme Court understanding, he would be found guilty.

Amazon must be broken up. It wasn’t enough that they have a virtual monopoly on retail online, they also needed to gouge people?

Every billionaire is a policy failure.

Court Leaks and Attorney-Journalists The professional-ethics implications of making court confidences public.

This article (proposing professional sanctions for lawyer-journalists who publish leaked SCOTUS material) is genuinely one of the stupidest things I’ve read in my entire adult life reason.com/volokh/2026/...

Democrats should make the confirmation hearing on the nominee to be U.S. Attorney General all about the Epstein files.

If you won’t commit to release the files without redactions and prosecute the Epstein class, then you’re obstructing justice, not enforcing it.

Republicans want to allow warrantless surveillance on U.S. citizens.

Democrats are fighting for your privacy. If the U.S. government wants to extend FISA, they need to obtain warrant to surveil U.S. citizens.

It's commonsense, but Republicans are fighting it tooth and nail.

Like... no. Their job, if they win in November, is to spend the next two years making Donald Trump's life a living hell and prevent him from making things worse for the rest of the time he's in office. They are there to gum up the works.

Laughing at the idea that the "first order of business if Dems win House/Senate" should be to re-introduce the right-wing immigration bill Biden/Harris tried to run on in 2024 to take the immigration issue off the table by making a ton of concessions to the anti-immigration right.

A lot of cops are cowards. See Uvalde response.

Many of them are only “tough” if they are bearing down on someone with their guns drawn.

16 years ago, Republicans gerrymandered Virginia, taking 8 out of 11 seats in the House of Representatives.

Tomorrow, Virginia voters will have the chance to combat Trump's gerrymandering efforts by voting YES on the referendum.

A clip from The New York Times reads: "But only the entities that officially paid the tariffs are eligible to recover that money. That means that the fuller universe of people affected by Mr. Trump’s policies — including millions of Americans who paid higher prices for the products they bought — are not able to apply for direct relief.

The extent to which consumers realize any gain hinges on whether businesses share the proceeds, something that few have publicly committed to do. Some have started to band together in class-action lawsuits in the hopes of receiving a payout."

The average American family paid $1,700 in tariffs last year, according to the bipartisan Congressional Joint Economic Committee. Few will ever see any of that money back. The refunds will go to companies, if doled out at all. What a joke.

How Amazon’s AI Algorithms Raise the Prices You Pay Amazon can steer market-wide prices without ever colluding—exposing a gap in antitrust law that the FTC is now fighting to close.

1. Amazon has built powerful pricing algorithms that have learned how to steer prices upward — not just on Amazon, but across the web. I have a new piece on how these algorithms work, and how they help sustain Amazon’s monopoly.

Needless to say, simply quoting Trump without giving context or pointing out that he is a habitual and shameless liar is the opposite of journalism.
