Did someone else on here stumble upon this same <CHAD> house in Cicero or are there many of these. I know I have seen it before. What does it mean?
A yellow brick office building perhaps dating to the 1940s with the corner chopped off to make the entrance
The door and a column above it seem to be made of blocks of polished stone
A big grid of glass blocks

Yes, I am aware Trump is worse, but what Booker is doing here is bad politics at best. Dems need Arab American Michiganders in their coalition and keep running candidates who support apartheid Israel
Nice to see the Dems doubling down on their “scold Arab voters” strategy in Michigan, not to be confused with their support for killing them in the Middle East
I noticed that very recently too! He stood right there. I guess IL was something of a battleground state that year — JFK only won by about 9k votes, some of which were contested. Great spot for a rally tho don’t you think

At 2 p.m. Sunday, April 19, Andy Pierce and I are giving a free presentation about the Uptown Theatre … at the Riviera Theatre! I will also talk a bit about the Riv's history. And there's a tour of the Riv following our talk. No tickets needed — just show up. www.facebook.com/events/94407...
One of my favorite maps of Illinois kind of zooms in on your map to show the insane level of connectivity here, the number of places accessible with a 1- or 2-seat ride is just mind boggling
a map from 1918 showing the interurban network sprawling across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio
One side obsession from my research into the 1920s is the extensive network of ELECTRIC trains that used to connect cities and towns across the central Midwest called the Interurban. We had this more than a hundred years ago. The things we had and the things we lost.
Lolol
That is cooler than my most recent Cicero church find, with its giant sign displaying photos of five congregants recently cured from depression.
Somehow my flood-prone Berwyn basement has avoided any backups so far this season but I am not liking this number. Very cool website tho
Probably my all time favorite church (and I have been to Rome!) Max always takes great pics although many are regrettably taken outside of our great state
They “have” to live in Florida
Thank u! Come visit the land of Lincoln anytime. My wife went to Illinois Wesleyan so we visit beautiful Bloomington Normal often!
Happy Easter to my Orthodox friends. Here are four of my favorite Orthodox churches in Chicagoland. Hope to get to more this year!
There is one of everything in Berwyn
Incredible
Yellow Art Deco theater with red, vertical trim and glass block blade sign. The marquee has a large clock in the center.
Time Theatre (1938) in Mattoon, IL.
A cow labeled Los portales
Cow chef in Chicago Heights
A white classic car with hood popped. Black HABANA plate in addition to a U.S. plate. Falcon

i am not saying it is some law of nature that they would be bad, but there are some beautiful old stations along the line now, and my only point of comparison are the grade-separated congress park and cicero stations (and the UP-W station in Oak Park) which are not exactly places of community pride
Nolan do you mind if i share this link and credit you on Twitter where i have a handful of fellow train-loving west suburbanite followers? I notice you have Quote Tweeting turned off and are (laudably) not active on that horrible site so I wanted to check.
What an great find. I wonder how close we came to this; it would have transformed the downtowns. Can't decide if I would like it or not. Fewer accidents, better bus service, but also probably dirtier, uglier station areas and too-fast traffic. Harlem should be grade separated tho
A good news Wednesday re-up with the link to this incredible document, which I don't believe has ever been posted before online: www.documentcloud.org/documents/28...
Oh I imagine it would have been quite a surprise to see this not knowing it was there. At least you didn’t have to deal with the bitter disappointment of not getting inside
How lucky! I am due back, I had my toddler in one of the double-wide pews and the extra space really kept her from getting antsy. Let me know if you hear they are ever giving tours, would love to hear from an expert about all the art/architecture in there.

More cool brick patterns
Just so much to look at. Just wow!
One of many such gym doors
Weird little octagon with swirly art deco image inside.
