One of my successes from the '25 session was leading on this bill and working with the Dept. of Education to understand how it would be implemented. Now, seeing it become reality and include schools that serve my constituents makes my time and energy feel well spent.

Iowa City Community Schools just became an inaugural Purple Star School designee for supporting military-connecting children at Iowa City West and City high schools.
Albia, Forest City, Newton, Pleasantville, Sigourney, Woodward-Granger also rose to the challenge and were honored today.

Working now. That was odd. I love this flour, though.
For some reason, this photo will not load for me, and I've become weirdly obsessed with seeing it.
Josh leaves us to run for US Senate, a run which I support because he has consistently impressed me with his kindness, his thoughtfulness, and his unwavering dedication to good work on behalf of those with the most struggles in life. Every Iowan will find an advocate in him, and I wish him well.
Rep. Jeneary demonstrated to me the best of bipartisan work from the moment that I stepped into my first Nat. Res. committee meeting. When I asked for a speaker, working together on bills, we did so, always, as equals. I'm my work going forward, I seek to mirror that respect and openness.
Rep. Tom Jeneary and Rep. @joshturek4iowa.bsky.social offered their retirement speeches this morning.

Continuous water monitoring is necessary for Iowa's, and Iowans' health. Thank you, Iowa Flood Center & Izaak Walton League!
Not every day you get to hold and learn about two gold medals! The one from Rio contains crushed seashells, and both have braille print on them!
Just a casual game of HORSE in #IADist89, benefiting Shelter House, between @joshturek4iowa.bsky.social and @iowastartingline.com's Zachary Oren Smith!
Just sorry I couldn't stay for the whole thing- @zabner.bsky.social, you better let me know how long it takes for ZachO to get a basket!
With Meghann Foster also taking pictures, I realize I didn't take as many as I normally would, including totally missing getting a picture of our other volunteer! Still feeling great about this beautiful sunny day and the five bags of trash we collected on Hwy 1 this morning
#JoCoDems Hwy cleanup today!
Meet at the Frida Khalo parking lot in Solon at 10am.
Lung pants, long sleeves, and I recommend a hat!

'We would be imposing new requirements onto the … regents universities without any increase in funding,' Levin said. 'I don’t know exactly how we expect them to carry on that administrative burden when we aren’t giving them new funds.'"

While a civics education is important, it won’t mean anything if students are forced to take the same courses over and over again instead of getting to choose what kinds of classes in the subject they wish to take.

In reference to the civics education policy included in the bill, Levin said she doesn’t understand why the Legislature would 'expect students to go to college if they’re going to have to take the same classes that they are required to take in ninth grade.'

Rep. Levin "was unsurprised to see a lot of status quo funding... with the state budget being 'not in a fantastic place,' but she was still disappointed in the lack of increased funding for [the Regents] as they are being asked to implement new policies.

House Education Budget is live!
There's not a lot to love in here, but I'm digging in and you know I'll be asking questions!

Regarding drilling for hydrogen generally. Iowa doesn't much of have a historical resource mining industry.
Nowhere on my radar did I have a productive 4-HOUR meeting on hydrogen in my prediction for the day, but here we are!!

Today's retirement speeches from Rep. JD Scholten, Rep. Lindsay James, & Rep. Monica Kurth were filled with beautiful, funny, and thoughtful stories and intentions for the future.
I genuinely cannot imagine this chamber without the three of them, and will miss them deeply!
Yes, disparate databases spread across the state are less efficient, but they also mean that someone getting the data doesn't get EVERYONE's data.
5/5
All it takes is ONE person posting the wrong version of a document, or clicking an innocuous-looking link, and everyone in that database is at risk of benefits theft, identity theft, fraud, etc.
